I'm sure this has been done before, but I didn't know what to search and I couldn't really be arsed. Name 'em.
Golota drops two-ton three times, Galento gets up, hits him hard, and Golota just quits on his stool after the 7th round
The perfect example of this actually happened when Hearns knocked out Duran. Duran was the better fighter but he would never beat Hearns. He would beat a lot of guys that could beat Hearns, but he would never beat Hearns.
Maybe the best example I have is Foster vs Spinks. I would pick Foster to win, even though Spinks was the better fighter.
Michael Nunn had the physical attributes and natural talent to possibly beat some great MWs that he might otherwise be ranked below in terms of greatness. Sammy Mandell was basically the Michael Nunn of his LW era - he successfully defended his title against ATGs like McLarnin and Canzoneri, but ranks below them all-time.
I don't think this is a good example at all to be honest. Sure, Duran was greater, but at lower weights. From ww and especially above, I think it's quite clear Hearns was a better fighter (the Barkley debacles withstanding).
The Barkley fight and the Hagler fight at 160 kind of prove my point, as does Leonard at 147. Granted, there is a point where size differential comes into play; at 168, I guess, though Duran was old then. At 160 Duran did better vs common opponents .
Not always true. He lost to benitez while heanrd won handily, and he also was a lot more inconsistent than hearns past the 147 division
One for me, is that Antonio Avelar would beat Sot Chitalada. Sot's fights with Bernal and Kittikasem prove he has major issues with off-key punchers. Avelar was better than both in his prime, a bigger puncher, and just as big as Sot. If those two can drop, beat and/or tie with Sot, then I think Avelar from the Kim/Oguma fights can blow Chitalada out.
