That isn't accurate at all. The younger Monzon certainly did turn up the heat late in fights, most notably in the first Benvenuti fight.
Disagreed. Didnt watch this fight for years, but i recall Benvenuti till going for it even though he was getting carved (which is why idiotic Cossell was outraged when the fight was rightfully stopped)
You're talking about the wrong fight. Benvenuti was knocked senseless by a right cross in their first fight. Monzon wasn't some passive fighter. He was methodical, but he smelled his opponents wearing down, he absolutely became more aggressive.
My mistake, tought you wrote the second fight. Anyway, my point still stand. I never said Monzon was a cautious passove fighter, but he wasnt a guy that would go after the ko everytime and all the time. Hence why, i could see Eubank going the distance with him, since he could be very negative and cautious at time, and had a very good, if not great, chin.
