Diaz sits on almost every punch he throws, and its clear he has next to 0 "power." Maybe his hands are brittle, or he just doesn't have the snap of other guys, but I watched the Julio Diaz fight convinced Pernell Whitaker had more power than he did. Cause at least Whitaker wasn't trying to KO people 90% of the time, and showed one-punch power in very rare occasions. Juan just does not hit remotely hard...so who hit harder?

Whitaker does just about everything better then Juan. Well I'll give the little piglet some credit. He puts his punches together very well.

he does, and you get the sense that if he had an ounce of power, he'd be considered a true great fighter. He throws every punch in the book, his stamina/relentlessness/combos are terrific. He fights in a way that harkens to the mantra of Duran and others, hit the shit out of them, from all angles until they can't take it. Too bad Diaz has manos de mierda or the guy's potential would be off the map.

    Whitaker.

Whitaker didn't load up on shots or put as much behind them as Juan does, but Pea certainly had some pop in his left hand. He also had the ability to hurt guys to the body as well.

Although Pea wasn't a big puncher, I think he hit harder than often given credit for.

Agreed! I remember when he had Tito hurt to the body so he does have decent pop!

N Terms of SINGLESHOT Power, Whittaker had the Ability to HURT More Lightweights than Juan Diaz Does...

Diaz Lands THUDDING Shots...Whittaker's were SHARP...CRISP...

But Obviously, Diaz will Retire w/MORE KO's than Whittaker had...

Juan Diaz must have weak azz wrists - that's the only way I can figure he can manage to land so many clean shots and not get more knock-outs.

Still, I must say - Julio Diaz looked slow in there next to Juan. I was surprised. And wrong in my prediction. Again.

It's funny. Both Julio and Freitas seemed to be walking right through Juan Diaz's punches but when push came to shove they both seemed like they quit because they were tired of getting bit by all those mosquitos and Juan didn't seem like he was going anywhere himself.

Like Jaws says it looks like he's sitting down on his punches but has anyone else noticed it seems like he's hitting with a partially open glove on a lot of his shots? I don't know if it's because his hands hurt or just poor technique.

I don't think Diaz "sits on almost every punch he throws"; and alot of the time he doesn't turn them over fully (and sometimes not at all).

Whitaker's power was underrated when he chose to really sit down and punch...but some of his magic was in the speed and the angle as well.

    Peace.

I like messing with ya brother....

You have the tendency to pick greater fighters over less great fighters in every single category...even if that's obviously not true. You just can't seem to want to acknowledge that a lesser fighter (especially if you don't like him) could have any edge in any category over one of your favorite greats.

    Examples:

Lennox Lewis had faster hands than Wlad. Nonsense.
Leonard's left hook was more powerful than Oscar's. Nonsense.

So it wouldn't surprise me to see you say that Pernell, for example, hit harder than Mayorga at 147lbs...if that topic came up....

Pernell had more power than Juan does, but he threw a lot less punches.

I don't agree with this statement at all...

    "However"

Upon closer review I'm willin to rethink my former position that Wlad's hands are significantly faster than Lewis'....if faster at all...

Why don't we all review the two following compilations and form an opinion:

    LENNOX LEWIS!!
