Usually when I favor a pure puncher over a boxer-puncher, it's either because: A) the boxer-puncher is chinny B) the puncher can take a shot or ten in return Haye can crack, but I'm not convinced he takes out Mormeck early. We already know Haye can't take a punch, and I don't know that he has the stamina to outlast Mormeck. If the fight goes any deeper than eight, look for a sloppy final four rounds. But I don't think it goes that far. Haye shoots his wad early, with minimal success, and gets got before the fight reaches the later rounds. Mormeck KO 6/7
I've yet to see Mormeck fight where Jean Marc wasn't the one holding on as the fight went into deep water....
I don't think Haye is as chinny as portrayed, Thompson caught an inexperienced guy who blew his load early, Haye almost had the Cat out himself in the early rounds and Thompson had some success towards the end against contenders who couldn't put him away - he always had the power... Both Haye and Mormeck have quesionable stamina, Haye has the edge in power, I think he takes it..
You don't think Mormeck was conserving energy or holding on late in that one? He beat the tar off of Braithwaite for half of the fight and then flat out ran out of gas...he got through it ok because Braithwaite has no motor either..plus, he was bashed up.
I agree in being unsure of Haye's quality late into a fight as well, but he does hold a considerable edge in speed, power and skill. It's not often that a fighter with significant advantages in those categories heads into a fight as an underdog.
one thing's fore sure, mormeck writes checks his stamina can't cash. like lacy, he should try to relax a little more. even though he beat bell in the rematch, the end was borderline pathetic as he fell over himself and seemed to nearly collapse from exhaustion. with his skills, he shouldn't find himself in such situations.
Mormeck TKO 9 It's not a confident pick though, as he's clearly past his best. However, I think he's tough enough, experienced enough and good enough to beat haye. Similar to Audley, he's over hyped and simply not that good. I don't see him being any better than when he was taken out by The Cat.
True enough on Haye's advantages but I question his stamina, toughness and ability to handle pressure. When Fragomeni pressed him he had a tough time at times in that fight.
Fragimoni had big nasy tattoo's. That would scare anyone :nono: Mormeck has a bleached goatee. It's an obvious oversight on your part.
Not anymore, Tam, not anymore. :: Haye has serious power and solid skill and if he can catch Mormeck right, it's over. Huge risk, no doubt...and Haye does possess some skill. But I think Jean-Marc's underrated boxing ability, parrying and early-fight stamina come through for him again. He can take shots better early, and that should be enough to let him get close to Haye and land his tight, powerful short shots. The shorter compact Fragomeni gave Haye alot of trouble. Haye has a good stick but it can be taken away, especially with Mormeck's style. And I don't think Mormeck is at that much of a speed disadvantage. Mormeck's overhand right should have a FIELD DAY in this fight, and that's arguably his best punch. And Haye loves to throw that lead right uppercut....tsk, tsk. I like Mormeck by KO in the mid-rounds....if it doesn't happen, both guys tend to gas (Mormeck more so), so it will get very interesting. Very likely an FOTY candidate. Peace.
Very sound analysis, and I agree with a hell of a lot (if not all) of it...but I'm going to go with puncher anyway :: I really don't think Haye is as chinny as he's made out to be, and I don't think Mormeck is quite quick and sharp enough to take advantage of any deficiencies in this area in any event. Unlike a few, I actually think Haye's biggest danger is early doors- the longer it goes on, the more likely it is that Mormeck starts to slow and stand right in front of David. Which is not the best place to be, frankly. Much, much more to the point, there is almost no chance of Warren allowing Enzo Mac anywhere near Mormeck whilst I have a hole in my arse, though he is much more likely to allow Haye at his man IMO, even if Haye comes through this weekend. And I'm desperate to see Enzo have a bit of a lie down...:blobbox: Haye KO 10 MTF
Feebles....indeed if it goes past 7-8, your scenario is VERY likely....I don't think Haye is china-chinned (that is exaggerated), but I do think it's a bit suspect and I think Mormeck's type of shots are perfect to expose that, hence my thinking. Should be a great fight! Peace.
