The European Boxing Union EBU has made a new rule that when a fighter loses his mouthpiece when being hit, the ref must stop the action immediately and replace it. If the fighter loses it on purpose, the ref can deduct a point from him. I am not sure if the world sanctioning bodies have made this change too. To me, the idea is ridiculous. I saw a fight this weekend where one fighter lost two good chances to put his foe away, when the opponent was in the ropes taking a battering but dropped his mouthpiece and had a breather when it was replaced. Before, the system has been that the ref has to wait for a lull in action and then call a time-out. Even before, in the 80s, the mouthpiece was replaced between rounds only How do you think it should go? Also, do you think the fighter should get a warning for losing his mouthpiece three times (or so) even if it gets hit out of his mouth?
That's the BEST Way to Handle it...Even Waiting for a "Lull" is SUBJECTIVE & Can Take an Opportunity Away from a Fighter...If You Lose the Mouthpiece, Replace it AFTER that Round...
I am inclined to agree. I am just wondering if it is too dangerous, which I think is the reason the system was changed. Of course, boxing is a risky business but I wouldn't want to see fighters lose their teeth or to see fights ended with one guy's teeth coming through his lip, if that can be prevented. because of this, I would suggest waiting for the lull + deducting points if the fighter loses the mouthpiece more than twice
But that's Still SUBJECTIVE...If a Fighter is HURT by the Same Blow that Dislodges his Mouthpiece, REED Thinks a Ref SHOULDN'T Go Searching for "Lulls", @ the Expense of an Opportunity to End the Fight...& What IS a "Lull???...If the HURT Fighter Creates a Bit of Distance by RETREATING, is that a "Lull"???...Basically, REED Doesn't Think Replacing the Mouthpiece Should Negatively Impact the FLOW or FABRIC of a Particular Fight...
Hell, scoring is subjective and that is determinative of fights all the time. The ref gets paid to use his judgment. This is an area where the ref's judgment is needed. Making a guy fight a large part of a round without a mouth guard is encroaching on the integrity of the sport and the safety of the fighters. I agree that a ref should err on the side of not interrupting the flow of the fight, but that's a lot different than just waiting until the end of the round every time.
i just hate when people spit it out honestly i think it would be rare to come out if people didn't spit it out.. maybe if you spit it out 3 times you lose a point keep the fuckin mouthpiece in or you have to drop your drawers
What they should do is enforce the rule differently, depending who the fighter (s) is. That way, the rule could become another lever for promoters, etc. to influence the outcome of fights.
