Agreed with the consensus. Joppy would tell De la Hoya in the pre-fight hype: "The Bus stops at 160" This time he'd be correct.
Does ODH get to use illegal hand-wraps too? Like the ones Trinidad so obviously used to beat the hell out of Joppy with?
Nonsense? I'll tell you what is nonsense - watching the Trinidad/Joppy with the hind-sight of what happened just prior to Trinidad/Hopkins, and thinking for a minute that Trinidad didn't cheat. He almost knocked Joppy's head off with a glancing blow! It was obviously a cheat-job - no question. What's nonsense is blindly believing that since it can't be proven, that Trinidad couldn't possibly have cheated prior to his getting caught. Every indication of the events of Trinidad/Joppy, with the benefit of hind-sight, is that his gloves were illegally wrapped. Concluding otherwise is giving Trinidad the benefit of the doubt at best. And at worst, it's believing what you want to believe and not what's likely to be true.
regardless. Let's not inject this "illegal wraps or non-illegal wraps" into every MM involving Trinidad or Margarito. I mean...what the fuck?!
what the fuck? i'll tell you what the fuck. if we insist on discussing hypothetical match-ups involving either of these fighters, this important distinction is necessary. and to leave it out? it means ambiguity about which fighter we're talking about - the one with illegal wraps or the one without them. if this fact isn't nailed down, the discussion becomes confusing and meaningless.
Oscar's a much better fighter, but Oscar was just not effective at all at 160. I think Joppy decisions him.
