Forbes is a blown up 130 pounder....and gave DLH a pretty good challenge. Oscar is no longer a player at the elite level. Anyone who pays to see him fight anymore is just contributing to MMA being boxing's daddy.
HBO commentating has been questionable for awhile, to say the least. Manny was deep throating Oscar like Foreman used to.
dlh did okay, you guy, Forbes is crafty and is hard to hit clean, plus, he didnt took many chances, so DLH outworked him and did it quite easily. Not a spectacular performance but a average one
All good points but this also doesn't bode well for a Mayweather rematch. Floyd is Forbes...times 20.
dsimon writes: Everyone acts suprised at Oscar's performance? He hasn't fought past six rounds in how many years now? Mayweather kicked his ass the first time and they both are is trying to pull more G's. Oscar is a fucking prostitute, he does not care for his legacy, the fans, or anything but the G's. If he had half a backbone he would pull out of the Mayweather fight and give his spot to Cotto. The guy like quite a few is looking out for #1. He is trying to squeeze a few more dollars out, and anybody who would pay a dime to see him is a sucker. I get the fights for FREE and I refused to watch this fight tonight... For FREE and I wouldn't watch that sycophant. I will have the Mayweather fight free of charge as well and will not watch it. Frankly I would rather post here and talk about Dildos with Lok than watch Oscar's innane attempts to milk the fans of a a lst few dollars. :flip:
I don't think he looked that much worse than his last two fights. He looked good against Mayorga because Mayorga is so easy to hit. He got hit more tonight than against Mayweather, but also let his hands go a lot more.
It isn't there yet. But as long as there are big PPV's like with Oscar against Floyd....in which the outcome is without a doubt...people will be more and more likely to shell out their bux for an MMA card in which anything can happen. I am not saying that MMA is better...just saying that is becoming more and more popular....and big money PPVs with shot and past their prime fighters will just lead to people turning more towards the MMA cards for entertainment.
Boxing could take a page from that. When a big PPV fight doesn't live up to the billing.......make the next one free.
MMA is still f*cked. Every org out there save the UFC is going in the sh*tter. Nobody turning a profit. Gary Shaw's Elite XC has lost 30 million, the IFL is nearly dead, Bodog is dead, there's nothing out there other than the UFC which itself is able to sell itself on its brand alone thanfully despite its worsening ppv cards angering alot of mma fans lately. Quarry/Starnes was a major disaster.
Who cares. 2 mismatches means there shouldn't be a 3rd fight. There shouldn't really have been a second fight but just like De la Hoya-Mayweather right now it was the biggest fight possible. It didn't hurt their promotion too much.
You guys know what I am syaing is true. Boxing is all about money now...that is why a shot guy like Oscar continues to be one of the biggest moneymakers in the sport. Fans get screwed.
You think that anybody thinks that Oscar...based on tonights performance...has a better chance next time?? Floyd/DLH is the biggest fight possible?? Are you fucking kidding me?
word, saw it in hd as well shit they were treating stevie like a sparring partner (hbo commentary team that is), dlh was touched up under both eyes and his nose a bit if stevie could punch a lick it mighta been interesting
Oscar looked bad against Sturm but then looked alot better against B-Hops. It's pretty obvious Oscar can't get up for tune up fights. It is the biggest fight to be made in boxing right now. Name me 2 fighters that would do more PPV buys then Mayweather-De la Hoya. They don't hold the PPV record for nothing.
So you would rather pay for the rematch, than to pay the same for Cotto vs Floyd? I could, as a 30 plus year boxing fan, name at least 20 fights that I would consider bigger than a Floyd vs. Oscar rematch. And that is just off the top of my head.
PPV buys measures how big a fight is. I would rather pay to see Mayweather-Cotto, just like any other hardcore fan would. Truth is however is that De la Hoya-Mayweather does more PPV Buys then Mayweather-Cotto. That is the reason why it's the biggest fight in boxing. Remember I didn't say best fight, i said biggest.
I thought Oscar looked pretty damn good. He hadn't fought in a year. His hand speed looked good. And he fought hard all the way to the end which he hasn't done in a while. I don't see how anyone can make a claim about his power or lack of...Forbes has never been stopped and that makes it too hard to tell one way or the other (although I thought I remembered him getting seriously rattled in a fight on the Contender show.) In my opinion Oscar has been a great fighter at these higher weight classes but he's not been elite like he was at the lower weight classes. I don't think he's shown any ability to hurt a full sized fighter at these higher classes (the only thing that speaks the opposite of that is his beating Mayorga.) And I think the hands-sort-of-down defense he uses under Mayweather Sr. has never been effective for him and won't be effective for anyone unless your last name is Whitaker or Mayweather. And he just doesn't look physically strong...as he's moved up, instead of getting stronger with the weight, he's just kind of added softness to his physique (even though tonight he didn't look flabby...yet he still looked like he's not a real strong guy.) He ain't beating Mayweather, but I think you guys are being way too hard on him, probably because he dresses up like a homo sometimes.
