When I was watching Marquez go down like that in the third, I got to thinking - how many times have we seen fighters knocked out and seriously hurt by whacking their head on the canvas? It seems so unfair, and we know that taking blows there is more dangerous than anywhere else.....as stupid as it would look, anyone else think some sort of small rubber padding at the back of a fighters head, like a wee rubber jew cap:: would be a good idea?
the only trouble is it probably would hinder movement for the fighters. Head movement is an important tool, and some kind of covering back there would make that tough. There are alot of good pros, especially defending rabbit punching, but idk
Im sure some bright spark could invent some devise that would give a bit of protection back there without hindering movement or padding the rest of the head. Hell some sort of specifically soluble adhesive or some shit.
I don't think it is unfair if a fighter hits his head to the canvas since it has been achieved by the other guy by legal means. Headgears are not a bad idea but because of preventing rabbit punches, not because of this
I've just applied for a patent for this idea, and I will begin approaching the various commissions shortly...Thank you Hut Hut
I have a better idea. They should institute a new rule: Knock a guy out but try to catch them before they hit the ground. You KO him and catch him before he falls and you get an automatic 3 pt rd instead of 2. :: They'll need padding on the forehead too, to finally prevent headbutt causing cuts. Put that on your patent too Barristan.
well unfair's maybe not the best word, but I hardly think anybody could say that boxing loses anything if canvas-to-head KOs were eliminated. It's just the luck of how somebody falls, and as I said, it's obviously dangerous.
I think that you would need too much padding for it to be effective because a free fall to the canvas is as high as the fighter is tall. You'd probably need at least 4 standard pillows to lessen the impact of a 6 foot fighter's free fall to the canvas!
