I don't think this matchup has ever been done before.

I think it's pretty much agreed to by all that Pryor would have gotten smashed at 147 by Leonard and Hearns. And most agree that Duran and Benitez would have also been too much for Pryor at 147.

But what about Palomino? Who was an excellent fighter, but just a level below those four guys.

    Would Pryor beat Palomino?

Can’t say for sure how moving up might impact Pryor but assuming he’s still close to the fighter he was at 140, you have to favor him by decision with Palomino having his moments

Love Aaron but he stays in his division. The way he left his body open and chin straight in the air while running in spells left hook doom for him and no one chucked it better than Palomino who ices Aaron in 8.

Of all the possible outcomes, that would be one of the weirdest to put money on

And Palomino had a nice left hook but he didn’t even have the best left hook out of late 70s welterweight world title holders with Mexican names

Palomino had fight ending power in his hook, but it was more fight ending power after raping you to the body for several rounds.

As opposed to a Cuevas or Foster who could end you with the hook early.

Yeah, I mean Cuevas was an absolute bone-breaker with his hook (the right didn’t exactly tickle either) ... a huge puncher... Cuevas is a name that comes up when people start talking left hooks

Palomino had power, his hook was best punch but like you say, his body punching was his best offensive tool ... Palomino isn’t a guy that’s immediately coming to mind for famous left hooks

For what it's worth, Palomino's KO of Dave Boy Green is one of the all time great one punch left hook KO's. I'll give Carlos that.

I think Stinger might be right on this one and Pryor has the type of frame & style that lends poorly to the step up.... Salvador sanchez didnt exactly have a rep as a big one punch artist but Gomez was still on his arse 90 seconds into his career at 126

Palomino busts him up and stops him 11 or 12. There are no wrinkles in Pryor’s game to support him being effective at higher weights. He looked undersized and got dropped hard at jr welter

    Palomino was solid.
