Let's assume all the fighters in question are in their prime and best weight class, unless mentioned otherwise. Which one of these highly unlikely outcomes would be the most likely outcome of a mythical fight? a) Marvin Hagler gets KOed cold b) Tommy Hearns gets outboxed and loses by four points or more c) Mike Tyson is KOed under two rounds d) A fight between Pernell Whitaker and Wilfred Benitez ends in a double KO
I'm gonna say A because there's a loophole; you didn't stipulate the weight. Foster or Spinks probably would knock Hagler cold. But, assuming you mean at 160, then I guess probably Hearns getting outboxed is the most likely. Foreman is the only candidate to stop a prime Tyson in 2, but even for George I don't see it happening. Lewis was teeing off on a shot, fat, weed dependent Tyson, and even he needed 8 rounds. Mike had a great chin early in fights. You needed to wear him down to get him outta there. Scenario D is just totally unrealistic.
Only way I see Hagler possibly getting KO'd is if he walked directly into the right hand Jackson starched Graham with. It's highly unlikely, because Graham had his chin hanging in the air, and Marvin ALWAYS kept his chin expertly tucked, even when in attack mode.
I'd say C; although I still think it's completely unlikely. As X said; if we scale up the weights, it's probably Hagler. Mike Tyson could absolutely spark him out; but that's obviously a silly argument. I think it's pretty much impossible to do so while weighing the same as him.
Ok, what about these 1) Ray Leonard suffers five knockdowns in the same fight (welterweight) 2) Amir Khan goes full rounds with Tommy Hearns 3) Cory Spinks scores a stoppage over Pernell Whitaker 4) Fight between Jake Lamotta snd James Toney ends inside a round without injuries Pick the scenario you could envision
For the first question D seems the least likely. Double kos are very rare. More so from guys as elusive who were not known for being ko artist. Second scenario number 2 seems unlikely however not impossible. It's boxing and the punch you don't see coming is the one that hurts you. Spinks could catch lightning in a bottle and catch him on the chin. It wouldn't be the first time a feather fisted boxer gets a ko. Just like pitchers getting one out of the park. Rare but happens.
This one is easy. It's 4 because it could mean the mob told Jake to take an early dive. It's highly highly highly unlikely prime Leonard gets decked 5 times at welterweight. Khan going the distance with Hearns? Impossible. There's a 100% chance Tommy starches him, and very quickly. It'd be nothing short of a miracle if Khan saw round 3. Cory stopping Pea? Also impossible.
Let's do another distance one, involving the Smith brothers: A. Liam Smith goes the distance with Julian Jackson. B. Callum Smith goes the distance with Mike Spinks.
This is easy. Both would know from the getgo that they had no chance. Thus, they would fight to survive. Spinks would be bit more likely to settle for the easy win, whereas Jackson would definitely go for the kill and get it
To be fair, Liam has never gone into survival mode. He went down swinging against Canelo, which is more than can be said for his larger, and more talented brother.
