LAS VEGAS – UFC president Dana White said Saturday he plans to make Floyd Mayweather Jr. a multi-million dollar offer to fight his lightweight champion after Mayweather's numerous putdowns of mixed martial arts fighters.

About 90 minutes after Mayweather's victory over Oscar De La Hoya, a bout in which he earned $10 million plus a cut of the pay-per-view revenues that could double that figure, White said he was prepared to match Mayweather with UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk.

White wouldn't be pinned down on a specific number, though he said, "I promise you, I will make it worth his while. I will make it very worth his while."

White was undaunted even after hearing of Mayweather's large payday.

"I told you, we can make him a very, very competitive offer if he still feels he can beat one of our guys," White said.

White was so angry at repeated comments made by Mayweather disparaging the UFC and mixed martial artists during the buildup to his fight with De La Hoya that he brought UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta and Sherk to the MGM Grand Garden to make a case for a fight with Mayweather.

Mayweather sent a peace offering to White via UFC vice president Marc Ratner before Saturday's bout. Mayweather told Ratner to tell White he was only kidding when he was ripping the UFC and its fighters.

"Floyd talked to Marc Ratner and he told Marc, 'Tell Dana I love him and all this talk about the UFC was just hype,' " White said. "Floyd and I used to be really close and I was kind of disappointed and (ticked) off with the way he was talking."

As for Sherk, White said, "He loved being here and seeing the atmosphere, and I think he left here believing he'd beat the living (expletive) out of the guy if he ever got the chance.

On an interesting side note Floyd Mayweather Jr. cleared up some questions about his rumored life after boxing. In the past weeks boxing's widely regarded pound for pound champion had made derogatory comments about mixed martial arts and its fighters, prompting UFC President Dana White to reportedly offer Floyd Mayweather Jr. a fight against current UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk to prove if Mayweather's suspicions of mixed martial arts fighters were true.

Mayweather Jr. swallowed his pride and sincerely stated to Fightnews that he has no plans of competing in any organization of mixed martial arts,

"I apologize to the UFC, sometimes we say things that we shouldn't have said and I'm man enough to admit that. I apologize to the Fertittas, Lorenzo and Dana White (UFC owners). I respect MMA fighters and what they do in the UFC. I have no plans of fighting in mixed martial arts."

then there is NO FIGHT....unless the UFC is ready to pay Mayweather 20-25 million....and considering how much they pay their other fighters...25 million to Mayweather would be a problem...the PPV will do over 1 million..and the bosses at ufc still get to pack their pockets with money...

This is retarded everytime people bring this up

Its not fair to even consider or bash mayweather for not fighting sherk

sure floyd would kill him standing, but u cant possibly expect floyd to prepare himself against a world class wrestler

how come nobody who trains mma with me ever talks about how much better they are then boxers and none of the boxers i train with ever talk about how they could KO anyone in UFC??

then i come on the internet and a bunch of guys talk about how weak boxers are compared to UFC and vice versa.

its like mike_dave said...you couldnt possibly expect mayweather to ever be ready to fight any world class wrestler who also has a stand up game. it would be like sherk preparing to fight floyd in boxing.

let me guess, you are one of those guys who can beat up pro boxers too in a "real" street fight right??

show some respect to the people who actually do fight. how come you never see mike_dave talking about how he can beat up Roy Jones Jr. in an MMA fight??

and your true pound for pound number one fedor emelianenko, has his little brother only boxing because he think it is a more respected sport than mma, AND he thinks it is crucial to being a good all around fighter...but he doesnt know anything right??

its funny cuz where i train jiu-jitsu nobody really shit talks boxing except white belts covered in tats talking about how pussy boxing is, then they say in the streets theyd like to see mike tyson escape their kimura.

it was all over for me when this guy tried to explain to me that fedor could beat vitali klitschko in boxing and so could cro cop. and how takanori gomi and wanderlei silva would be world boxing champions in their weight class if they wanted to.

nobody who really trains at the top level talks shit about how much the other sports competitors couldnt beat them up...they usually have this thing called respect.

but its not uncommon to hear an mma fan, who has never trained in any combat sport explain how he would ground and pound bernard hopkins in the street.

Floyd can deal with punches, not with kicks and submission moves. Likewise, sherk can't deal with a full-time boxer. he doesn't have a chin. MMA vs Boxing is stupid. Because boxing is part of MMA. That's why it's called Mixed Martial Arts: You mix boxing, karate, wrestling and other discipline.
