-Tito Trinidad won more than one of the first 8 rounds against DLH -Thomas Hearns hit Hagler with the same shot he hit Duran with -Joe Louis has a solid chin -Gerry Cooney is underrated -Manny Pacquiao lost to JMM -Vernon Forrest KD mosley without the aid of a headbutt -Lucky punches exist -the way to beat Mike Tyson is to play a mind game with him -Earnie Shavers was a good fighter -Ali was dominant in his second reign -Hopkins beating DLH and Trinidad is like Hagler beating Hearns and Duran
I don't see how anyone could watch Louis-Schmeling I and say that Louis had a bad chin. He went 15 years without being seriously hurt. He got knocked down what, 4 or 5 times in those 15 years? Boo fucking hoo. You suck, Jaws. Never forget that.
I don't know about the new statistics about all paper champs but Joe Louis used to be in second place in the list of champions who had bee down the most (behind only Floyd Patterson and now surpassed by at least Tommy Morrison). Even so, I'd agree with you. Him being down and wobbling had more to do with the way he kept his feet close to each other (much like was the case with Tito). Because of that he lost his balance often but also got a great leverage behind his punches
I don't see how anyone could say "Max Baer, Buddy Baer and Rocky Marciano had more power than Tyson" or "Tyson wasn't that much better than Max Schmeling." without laughing to themselves.
i thought he was very good puncher. he fucked a lot of guys up and knocked out them out in a brutal fashion.
he was. if it means anything, none of the major boxing publications had ranked hopkins in the top 10 at the time he was officially ranked #1 by the IBF. so if he wasn't green then what was he? near ripe? was hopkins in his prime when he fought mercado to a draw (although i thought he won)?
Duran was a "Puncher" in the Miguel Cotto, Julio Cesar Chavez Mold... WEAR U Down, Inflict PUNISHMENT, then Stop LATER Rather than Sooooooooner... Duran WAS NOT a 1 Punch, Fight's OVER Kind of Guy... But like Cotto & Chavez, his Power NEVER Dissipated as the Rounds Progressed... REED
He was knocked down nine times, total. Twice against Marciano, and once or twice against Max Schmeling. Primo Carnera was knocked down 13 times against Max Baer. Jess Willard was knocked down half a dozen times in his fight with Dempsey. Think of it this way: Joe Louis had 31 fights that were either over the title, or against a former and future titlist. He was knocked down nine times. Wladimir Klitschko has never fought over the undisputed title, and he's never faced a former or future (as far as we know) undisputed champion. He's been knocked down at least as many times. :dunno:
REED Won't Deny that Bernard has IMPROVED as a Fighter, but Hopkins FANS Treat his LOSS to Roy as if it Doesn't even EXIST...As if Bernard is a DRASTICALLY Different Fighter, from the 1 that Roy Beat... Different???...2 Some Degree...DRASTICALLY Different???...Nope... REED:nono:
Ali was being dominated by Foreman until Foreman gassed. Ali got a lucky decision over Doug Jones. Ali deserved the win over Earnie Shavers.
