And that triangle was far more about power than technique.

Brock really did look like shit though. He better thank his lucky stars thast Carwin gassed. Anyone else that would have paced themselves would have finished him.

Godfather with him being champ after 4 fights or whatever it was. Do you think hes some sort of phenom or the heavyweight division is just weak as piss?

The UFC Heavyweight division is as strong as it's ever been.

I lean more toward Brock being a phenom. He's an incredible athlete for a 265 pound guy. Also, in all honesty, his amazing wrestling background makes him a far more dangerous fighter than most guys with 5 MMA fights.

Say what you want about Carwin's experience, but his brutal and quick wins over Gonzaga and Mir were impressive by any standards. He was deserving to be where he was, but just wasn't ready for someone that could withstand his onslaught. Brock did. And again, remember, those are punches from Carwin that put guys like Gonzaga and Mir to sleep.

I think he is a Phenom with his strength and speed. The division isnt shit. Carwin, Cain, Mir, JDS, Nog, Brock, Nelson. These are top notch guys. But MMA and Wrestling go hand and hand. There is no way you can be a good MMA'st if you cant wrestle. And Brock was a 2 time Heavyweight NCAA champion. His amateur record is sick. i think only 5 loses in over 100 fights.

Brock uses his wrestling and uses it well. He is able to control these guys on the ground. What brock needs to work on more is his hands. And that can be tought. Josh Koshcheck and Rashad evans were both terrible with their hands earlier on and both were great wrestlers. Now they have great hands. It just takes learning. Brock is learning. But he has his wrestling, which is second to none, to help him out.

Anyone else wouldn't have badly hurt Lesnar with those punches. Theres a cost for being that powerful and large and punching that hard. If that had been Cain, he would've never had Lesnar in that situation in the first place, but he would've have cardio forever, so go figure.

Also, Randy couture won the belt in his 4th fight just like Lesner, and Couture is considered one of the greatest fighters ever.

Wrestle in what fashion? BJ Penn, Silva and Machida as well as Shogun are world class without wrestling. Unless you count TDD as wrestling?

BJ also fought for a title in his 4th fight, based on his BJJ background. He lost though.

Cheers for the opinions GF and Trp.

I really think Cain will be too much for Brock. I look forward to the fight.

Silva has been subed due to his lack of wrestling, but he has improved. His BJJ has gotten better. Check out his fight with Hendo.

I consider BJJ a form of wrestling. Leverage and balance on the ground. Its all in the same family IMO. BJ has good BJJ. And Machida almost got subbed by Ortiz for his lack of BJJ/wrestling. Machida is still a mystery to me tho.

false. if cain shows the stand up skills and speed of combination/punches he did against shot nog, then brock is fucked.

his standup will always suck and speed kills. he'll not see the punches coming.

I disagree. His standup looked decent against Nog because he is a shot zombie. You remember the Congo fight right? Cain does not have good stand up. If Carwin can't hurt Brock, no way in hell Cain can. Brock is waaay to quick/powerful and his wrestling is way better. I think Brock mauls him.

Yeah, but MMA was supposed to have evolved between then and now.

It has evolved somewhat, but this is a relatively young sport of 17 years. It has a number of different elements, and each of them takes quite some time to learn effectively.

I agree with you. Many would have had you believe, especially before Brock, that it was further along in its evolution than it was. That's all I've been saying.

It has evolved. Thats why someone like Royce Gracie, who dominated, would be dominated today. What thing that still is consistant tho is that wrestling is very important in MMA. and both randy and Brock are wrestlers. Brock is one of the best Amatuer wrestlers around/Much better than Randy.

Frank Mir knocked out Nog easily and Mir has never been anything more than mediocre standing. Nog is shot and Cain was able to hit him with flush shots.

I like Cain, but Carwin just has raw Foreman like heavy hands. And if he couldn't stop Brock, Cain will have a very tough time. Cain also doesn't have the size to keep Brock off him like Carwin did in the first round.

    It's a good fight and a great matchup. I can't wait again.

Cain looked worried there. His face said it all as he watched. He saw that Brock is coming along quickly, and that worries him.

There's something a bit iffy and uncomfortable-looking about JDS as well...I seem to remember seeing something I didn't like when he fought Gonzaga. I'm not sure he beats Brock. He might not have the wrestling capability or takedown defense at this point. His standup is excellent, but can he get out from under Brock if Brock takes him down.
