He will now fight the winner of the fight between Brock and some other guy for the right to challenge Wlad. Reportedly Byrd was getting thoroughly beaten in the later rounds and the ref had to stop it.

What do you think of Povetkin? Is he the real deal?

He will be the REAL DEAL...in 3-4 years...but if he fights Wlad in the next year or so..he will get KO'ed...HE isn't ready for someone like Wlad.

    He should fight Brock next....then maybe Guinn,Danny Williams,Kali Meehan..then step up again against a Rahman/Ibragimov/Chagaev around 2008

well it's somewhat of a falloff from Brock to those guys..so yeah......:crafty:

Povetkin already made a big jump from fighting the bums to fighting Byrd...and he was successful...but i don't think he can go from Brock to Wlad in 1 or 2 fights...:nono:

was going to say the same thing. but its tough because yes Brock is a great fight for him but after Brock there is no middle ground.

I mean at this point I think Brock is better than Peter all things considered. Povy just has to step up. I mean he has to fight Vlad and at least give a good account because there is no sense fighting down if he beats Brock. And there is no guarantee he gets by brock.

The only other fight I see for him is Valuev, Peter, or Ruiz if Ruiz works back into the mix. Out oif those fights Peter is the best one for him to take.

Given the dearth of top level HW competition and attactions, its possible he might be encouraged to take a klitschko or chagaev fight before he's ready...I agree that he needs a bit more variety in his diet, I'd like to see him against a few more powerful guys at some point, even the likes of a mccall, tua, maybe even briggs..outside of them, maybe mccline would be a good step next time round...

I was about to say he goes from Donald, Byrd and Brock to Kali Meehan. If it is Brock and he beats him, the next logical step is a titleholder.
