P4P I might actually pick Pacquiao to do a Honeyghan. An actual welter fight and Curry would beat up the gay basher
Please. Pacquiao annihilates that queer. Curry could never have taken that masculine heterosexual pressure for 12 rounds.
Donald Curry - massively overrated career based on a couple of good fights he had with Marlon Starling when the 147lb division was crying out for it's heir-apparent to SRL. Lost to Honeyghan. Lost to McCallum Lost to Nunn Lost to Norris Would lose horrendously to Pacquiao.
Yeah, Curry is the kind of guy that looked a lot better in some fights, that he really was. The guy even lost to mediocre Rene Jacquot FFS. He has a chance against PAcquiao, because he's so much bigger and could really crack with the left hook, but it's a slim one.
I think Pacquaio's handspeed would totally befuddle Curry as it did De la Hoya (I know he was shot), but also I think Pacquiao is a guy who the likes of Curry and anyone else from that era has never experienced before.
I can't help but think if Curry was around today rather than being considered as a guy with a brief but excellent prime he was somebody that "got exposed".
If Curry was around today, he'd be the best welterweight in the world by leaps and bounds. Thurman, Brook, Garcia, and Porter are SEVERAL levels below Curry. The two best welters in the world would both be Texas fighters - Curry and Spence.
I don't doubt that at all but what happens if today's version of a Honeyghan comes around and beats him up. It would seem today everybody would be saying "see, i told you he was overrated!" or "just another hype job exposed". Because it happened decades ago instead it's "he had a short prime".
This is true and an excellent point. I have said the same about Archie Moore vs Durelle. If now a champion goes down four times and then rallies to win, it proves how vulnerable he is and would be beaten by anyone. Back then, it was a great display of heart
AgREED. Pac would need to hurt And fluster Curry consistently and he's not going to land enough or do enough damage per shot to stop Curry from getting in and beating him up. Yes, Curry is over rated but so is Pac at welter.
Pac by stoppage IMO. He has better all-around speed and his southpaw stance likely nullifies Curry's best weapon (the hook).
I would take 09 Pac over Curry. I think Curry's wide, gun slinger stance squares him too much for Pac's straight left, and would make it more difficult to pivot with Pac when Pac is using his angles.
