... so they created a new one. The real champ has already defeated your "champ" (Campbell)... can you all just admit you were full of it?

No. End of story. Casa is still a KO waiting to happen. Katsidis blew the opportunity of his life. Okay guess that means the story wasn´t finished after the first word

the problem with lineal is cases like this where casamayor maybe won two rounds over Santa Cruz and received a "kobe bryant's wife after the boulder thing" type gift.

Completely, 100%, irrelevant. Bad decisions have always been a part of boxing... titles don't change hands if you don't win officially.

Any other decade but this one... and maybe the 90s... and there's absolutely no question that Joel Casamayor is lightweight champion.

Casamayor has no belt, except the WBO interim title.

If the WBO, WBA, WBC and IBF didn't exist... who would be the champ? No, I'm serious.

Which is why the designation doesn't mean much in 2008.

People can watch the fight on television or the internet and make up their own minds.

Nobody since Casamayor/Corrales III was a super-lightweight bout.

Ok ill put it like this. Campbell is the numbero uno fighter at 135 right now. Cassa won his last fight because of a gift decision. So Santa Cruz therefore beat the man who beat the man who beat the man......

Therefore Campbell has to fight Santa Cruz to be called the real champ.

    What a mess at 135lbs.

Your right. I totally forgot about that.

Castillo beat Corrales in a super lightweight fight as well. This means that as soon as Chico moved up there was a vacant Linear title. Diaz got 3 belts so that makes him the man and Campbell beat him.

WHEN did Santa Cruz BEAT Nate Campbell???:dunno: ....

MORESO, Don't Pretend that Casa-Campbell WASN'T a DEBATABLE Decision Either...

U PERSIST N Acting like the Linear Arguement is the BE All to END All, but it ISN'T...

Theres no way to say for sure who "the man" is at 135 now. Casa-Campbell II is the only way to answer that question.

    Riiiiight:rolleyes: ...

So THE FACT that Casa "Won" his Linear Title from a NON Lightweight Is ALSO Irrelevant???:dunno: ...

Or THE FACT that NOBODY Beat Duran, Mosley, Whittaker or Mayweather for their Lightweight titles is ALSO Irrelevant???...

THE FACT that U're Picking & Choosing what's Relevant or Not ACCENTUATES just how FLIMSY the Linear Debate is...

    Lineal. :nono:

I agree. Lineal champions mean exactly nothing in this day and age. Too many titles, too many forfeits by moving in weight.

Their judges still exist, and so do their decisions.

You repudiate the sanctioning bodies and yet slavishly follow the decisions of their judges...some of whom are as criticized as the sanctioning bodies themselves.

but it isn't, there are alot of factors that go into "lineal" titles.

I mean the lineal lightweight champions have left the division in the past, who decides what happens after that?

Maybe Casamayor was the lineal champion at some point, but he drew with KD (now what happens) then he gets a gift, in the meantime other good lightweights, who are universally ranked high, are fighting each other, and Nate Campbell comes out on top.

Maybe on a letter of the law deal Casamayor is "the" champ. But the circumstances around it certainly mitigate criticism.

You're right, he's the lineal champ, but he isn't the best lightweight in the world

IMO Casamayor is the true champion.Sanctioning bodies don't dictate who the champion is so eliminating that out of the discussion will make easier for the MANY who don't get what mr dave is talking about lol

    ........

So people are just supposed to disregard 1 of the worst robberies in history because of what some blind ass judges thought? :dunno: Not to mention he won that title against a guy who wasn't even a Lightweight when he fought him.

Arum is pushing hard for Pac - Julio Diaz. Sounds pretty likely that fight will come off.

It would be great if in the mean time Casamayor and Campbell fought to settle the whole lightweight title business, and have the winner face Pacquiao.
