Back in '99, before I moved down to Jacksonville, Florida, I lived in Harlem for three years. I was coming home from the bank I worked at on 125th Street. It was a nice day, so I walked because I lived on 139th and 7th.

Anyway, I saw Harold Weston Sr. on Lenox Ave. enjoying a fish fry (Harold's son, Harold Weston Jr. fought Tommy Hearns and Pepino Quevas, just to name a few). I went over to talk to Harold (Everyone called him "Pops") and while we were shootin the shit, freaking Mitch "Blood" Green walks up the street. Everyone was like "What's up Mitch" or "How's it going Blood?".... This cat was so out of it; next thing you know, he was beating the hell out of the pay phone because it took his quarter. He cursed it out, punched it and kicked it. He never got his quarter back and left cursing out everyone who looked at him. Mitch was a BIG dude! I never thought about how big he was.

    That's my story.

By the way, I just found out a couple of weeks ago that Pops died back in '04.

I think the closest I ever got to a fighter was when Steve Collins brother, Roddy, passed me on Grafton Street once.

I ran into Mitch twice, 1978 at Inter City Gloves he KO'd Guy Casale, and then at the trials.

I thought he'd win at heavyweight, but Marvis Frazier beat him.

Had Green just kept his cool in the 80's with Don King, he certainly would have gotten at least one title shot vs. Larry Holmes or Page, Bonecrusher, Tubbs, Thomas and Witherspoon..but he was just nuts.

Green had a lot of ability, was tough, and as Trey indicated, an extremely large and also quite powerful athlete.
