Yep. Whitaker would have a huge lead going into the 13th round but then would be promptly knocked out.
I'd love to take the credit for that but its really just because I talk to so many boxers. Some of them even know my name.
:atu: Yup...that 13th round was like a mystical wall of lead. These modern fighters couldn't have possibly handled it.
Indeed Whitaker could be up 120-108 after 12, he then would see a round card girl strut by with a sign that says "13" on it and go "whoa, wait, what the fuck???" ... then he'd stand up, the bell would ring and he would approach Mancini, who would then knock him out with one pawing, range-finding jab
Exactly, he'd be completely out of his element. Once round 13 starts they may as well switch from boxing to MMA or gymnastics.
I was an Amateur Star with a Bronze Medal in the 1967 Greater Madison County Muir Gloves Tournament, where I squeaked by on a split decision win over Eric Crumble:fightme:in the quarterfinals before being stopped (ON A CUT!!!) in the semi-finals by Peter McNeely
Well done. I fought at the Sakatchewan Games under 12 boxing tournament. I was doing pretty well (4-2) on the evening. However i wasn't able to continue as they disqualified me when they discovered i was 28 years old.
I hear ya, man I was leading Reggie Strickland on the cards when he thumbed me in the eye... I lost on a TKO... it was bullshit
Yeah the saying is true, when you fight a guy on his home turf you need a knockout just to earn a draw.
 I had much the same trouble in the over-70's event. Like you, I was hurtling toward triumph when my real age (27) was uncovered. "A man cut down in his prime, owing to petty politics." It's how one writer put the whole debacle, & I intend to duplicate these words on my headstone one day.
