Let's take the Mercer that fought Lewis vs. the Sanders that fought Wlad. Who wins?

    Mercer tko 8

Corrie lands some good shots early but Mercer is Mercer and just takes it and keeps coming
Also the Corrie in the Wlad fight was old and out of shape so it's not fair. It wouldn't change anything if it was a prime Corrie but still not fair.

Agreed. Stylistically an unwinnable fight for Sanders.

    Mercer quite comfortably

when are you guys going to realize that Corrie Sanders was wholly ordinary?

Mercer had never beaten anyone of note, "comfortably". Even against Morrison he had to go through hell before unleashing hell himself.

Anyway, that said, I agree that he beats Sanders every day of the week and twice on Sundays. His chin would withstand anything Sanders had to throw at him and he'd eventually wear Sanders down and stop him.

I can see Sanders giving Mercer a hell of a beating early only the succumb late. Him holding out over 10 is hardly out of the question. Mercer tends to be a bit overrrated on MM. He was inconsistent to say the least.

Right you are actually. I was watching some footage of Mercer from the early 90s against Homsey & Cooper and I'd forgotten how good he was - or more accurately just how shot he was by the last decade from when I have too many images of him floating around my head.

I also didn't realise that a couple of the distance fights he had early in his career against nondescript names were against nondescript names with one distinguishing quality - going the distance against all and sundry.

Yeah Mercer polishes Sanders off within 6, though the first few rounds would be allot of fun to watch.

If he could just have stayed in damn shape. Mercer had definite short-comings & flaws, but he was a very good fighter with some promising attributes. In-condition, he'd have been a handful for virtually all the 90's crew, but he just could not get his waistline in order...

How many men from the 80s onward can we say that about? Makes me sick.
