Ruddock had the tendency to get himself into trouble and if Tua was little else, he was a furious finisher when he got a chance. Ruddock could win the decision by boxing a perfect fight, but I think it is more likely that Tua catches him at some point and forces a stoppage
I like Ruddock simply outworking Tua... its possible Tua could hurt him and get him out of there, but it's just as possible that he plods forward without doing enough and is outpunched 4 to 1
NICE matchup! Haven't seen it before. I haven't even scrolled down yet to see teh responses..but I'm sure that most would pick Ruddock...as Tua is hated on this forum. I'd pick Ruddock too...the version that fought Tyson twice, as Tua doesn't hit harder than that Tyson and isn't as skillful. Of Course Tua is very capable of dropping Ruddock with that left hook and possibly stopping him also...but I say Ruddock wins a decision here.
Ruddock doesn't need to fight a "perfect fight" to beat Tua. If Ruddock withstood a prime Tyson he can withstand David Tua. David Tua couldn't even take out Hasim Rahman in two fights. Tua's power is overrated. Ruddock UD 116-112
It is how you want to read the statistics. Ruddock was easily wiped out by Lewis (Tua withstood the shots much better), practically taken out with one left hook by Tommy Morrison (Tua's hook was as good), down four times against Tyson (mostly single shots), down and in real trouble against Bonecrusher Smith and needed a split decision to overcome old Mike Weaver. Tua's power might be overrated, but also Ruddock has helluva reputation for a guy who scored one highlight reel KO and got his ass kicked twice by Tyson
Ruddock fought better fighters....it's his losses to Morrison and Tyson that make me think he has to much for Tua, and would knock him out.
If Im betting I'd put about 75% of my money of Ruddock to win and straddle it with about 25% on Tua by KO.
The second Tyson fight was stopped early as was the Morrison fight. And he got up from that hook. That's the thing. He got up. Tua game-quit in the Lewis fight, and covered up rather than try and engage.
Absolutely. Ruddock is madly overrated around here, mostly by Tyson fans, who usually choose to either ignore the Lewis-Ruddock fight or claim that Tyson "ruined" Ruddock and that's why Lewis beat Ruddock so easily. To me, this fight is a toss up...we have two limited fighters who can punch. And I might even favor Tua since Ruddock seems the more likely to get hurt, dropped and/or stopped.
Here we go again...like a stuck record. If someone thinks ruddock is a good fighter he must be a Tyson fan with an agenda. You're a one-dimensional poster.
Truth hurts, huh Stafford? And since you rushed in to respond to this, you are proving my point. Sticking up for the honor of Tyson fans and Ruddock overraters everywhere. Ruddock wasn't a bad fighter. He could punch, but he was limited and has a poor resume as far as wins go. And he wasn't anything special before OR after the Tyson fights.
seriously, how can you deny that what he is sayiong is true? I've had arguments on at least two dozen occassions with people saying those EXACT THINGS that bwj alludes to
Because he HAS to obsessively dispute pretty much everything I say, truth be damned. It makes him feel better about the countless times I have shown him to be wrong.
you overestimate your own importance my friend. I dispute things from anyone on the site if I disagree with it...not just you.
You do realize that Mike broke Ruddock's ribs and jaw in the rematch? Whats so far fetched about saying Mike altered Ruddock?
Not true. You go out of your way to dispute me, even when you have no clue what you are talking about.
Oh, please. I know Ruddock took a beating against Tyson. But one was making claims that Ruddock was "shot" or "ruined" prior to the Lewis fight. Based on his game efforts against Tyson, Ruddock was expected to beat Lewis. But then when Lewis destroyed Ruddock, then the "Ruddock was ruined" mantra was started by the Tyson fans who were jealous that Lewis KOed Ruddock with ease when Tyson couldn't do so (the crappy stoppage in the first fight notwithstanding) in two attempts.
For what it's worth (I often tend to take what fighters say with a grain of salt), Ruddock claims Tyson ruined him and vice versa.
I'm definitely with you with taking grains of salt. Fighters say all kinds of things and most of them are somewhat self-serving, like Ruddock giving himself credit for "ruining" Tyson. Ruddock landed some good shots here and there, but it's not like Tyson caught a beating. I'm amazed Tyson nation hasn't latched onto that excuse as well. "Tyson was ruined after Ruddock" ::
Why would they? He was already ruined before losing to Douglas, when Rooney & co. left. Tyson Nation has its bases covered ::
