“THE BABY BULL†IS BACKFORMER WORLD CHAMPION JUAN DIAZ RETURNS ON APRIL 13 AGAINST PIPINO CUEVAS JR. IN CORPUS CHRISTI ON FOX SPORTS NETWORKS, FOX DEPORTES & FUEL TV HOUSTON, TEXAS, March 6, 2013 – Baby Bull Sports & Entertainment is proud to announce that on Saturday, April 13 at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas’ beloved “Baby Bull,†former World Champion Juan Diaz, returns to the ring for the first time since 2010 to face Pipino Cuevas Jr. on FOX Sports Networks, FOX Deportes and FUEL TV. Juan will be available for interviews this Friday, March 8, 2013 starting at 3:00 pm at Mambo Seafood located at 9370 W Sam Houston Pkwy South (Beltway 8), Suite A, Houston, TX 77099, between Beechnut & Bissonnet. A popular figure in his native Texas and around the globe, Houston’s Juan Diaz (35-4, 17 KO’s) made legions of fans not only for his all-action fighting style in the ring, but also for his class outside the ring, where he insisted on getting his college degree while still competing in the world’s toughest sport. A former Unified Lightweight World Champion who held title belts for nearly four years, defeating Acelino Freitas, Michael Katsidis, Julio Diaz and Jose Miguel Cotto along the way, Diaz also went to battle with future Hall of Famer Juan Manuel “Dinamita†Marquez. Diaz retired from the game in 2010 following his rematch with Marquez in order to focus on his education and entrepreneurial endeavors. Now ready to make another run at a world title, the 29-yearold can’t wait to hear the bell ring once again. Pipino Cuevas Jr. (16-9, 14 KO’s) is the son of the longtime WBA Welterweight World Champion and while he hasn’t been able to add a world title to the family’s trophy case yet, the 33-year-old from Mexico City has definitely inherited his father’s power, as evidenced by his 88% knockout percentage. The winner of two of his last three, Cuevas will look to make Diaz regret his decision to return to the ring on April 13. CONTACTS:
i appreciate him coming back so we boxing fans can see him retired flat on his back, instead of retreating like a panocha in the marquez rematch.
keep it up and you wont be allowed access to my revolutionary intercontinental dating website for portly yankees interested in visa seeking, peruvian pre-op vixens.
Hey Smegman, when can we expect you to <S>make a horse's ass out of yourself while practically sucking his baby balls</S> Interview him?
I wonder why boxers get insulted so much by boxing fans? :: No wonder the sport is dying. Even its own fans are throwing it in the mud! ::
clogg has apparently suggested the friday special at Mambo's seafood will be Houston Community College Oysters. get there fast or there may be nothing left after hegman has had his usual fill.
I actually think Diaz's comeback is interesting and it would be nice to see him fight Broner or such. Keep the information coming Karl!
Though I must say that this advertisement text was pretty embarassing Pipino Cuevas Jr.
Not true, class acts or guys who just don't really give a shit what fans say about them just let it go. Was at a bar that Chris Arreola was at, and some some dude told him he fuckin sucked, everyone around him got tensed up but he just didn't bat an eye smiled and said "Just go have another drink bro." end of confrontation. Point is boxers are always going to have other fans talking shit, they don't all think you have to lace them out to be fans, and not all of them care what other people say, sometimes just roll with the punches.
This guy Diaz is chock full of mularkey, folks. I spoke to the Soothsayer known as Mike Rossman about this and he told me "don't call it a comeback". This guy Diaz retired because he was battered into it. Now he's back because he's broke. It's got nothing to do with getting his degree at DeVry, folks.
Arreola would mop the floor with the typical idiots in a bar. He may not be a great fighter at the world level, but he's certainly above average.
I don't see what's wrong with it ! Sure, it's a stretch to compare power only with record but they got to find a way to sell him, apart from being Cuevas son, and having a 88% ko ratio is a good start
He hasn't been able to add a world title to the family's trophy case yet is my problem. I'd also have a problem with a claim that Monk Foreman definitely has his father's power since his KO % is 100
And the two of the last three comment...which ignores that he has actually only won 2 of the last 7 and 3 of the last 10, with all losses coming via stoppage. Pipino Sr. was one of the best punchers ever and a good champ, but Jr. is no more than a journeyman at best. I know Karl is just trying to sell Cuevas for Diaz's benefit, but this is case of trying to put lipstick on a pig. That being said, I don't see what's unlikable about Diaz. He's a good fighter whose accomplishments pretty much match his skill level.
I did not write that press release, folks. It was sent via a PR firm, and I think Cuevas Jr. is a journeyman pug who is going to be the target of some mean shots and get wiped out early. Diaz is just like 95 percent of all former champions who is going to keep going for the money and he is a very marketable fighter who does huge ratings among the Latino viewing audiences. That being said, he's 29 years old now and has really taken some punches due to his aggressive style and is past his best days. He will make big bucks with Amir Khan to be sure, and Danny Garcia as well which be a huge fight here and garner big HBO ratings, but I'd favor Garcia right now. As far as taking on the Rios-Alvarado winner, I don't see him beating either one of those guys, but he'd land plenty of shots and it wouldn't be a wipe out to be sure. He'd hit Matthyse a lot as well, but Lucas is too strong for him at this juncture and would overpower him in a war of attrition. He'd best forget about Broner all together as that will end badly for him, and Alexander will beat him as well. He's had a bad eye since the Campbell fight and time will tell how that holds up. Like him or hate him, his fights are some of the most exciting to attend in person as he is a crowd-pleaser.
Did Diaz spent all of his money ?? He didn't seemed like the kind of guy to go broke, as I remember, he was living with his mom even when he was making millions ( or in the 6 numbers at least )
I don't know, he has a construction business and a trucking business, but times are hard for everyone now. He has a mansion, a wife and kids and expensive cars, and likes to golf and hang out at the country club and go deep-sea fishing in exotic locations, but that way of life costs a lot of money to maintain as he likes to live big and he may have a high-maintenance wife as well.
