AUSTIN, September 2 - Ricardo Cortes isn’t worried about fighting James Kirkland in his hometown of Austin, Texas. Kirkland’s reputation as a ferocious puncher and tenacious boxer doesn’t faze Cortes in the slightest. Even the Kirkland’s gaudy record and high knockout percentage means little to “El Guero,†one of the best boxing prospects to come out of California in a long time. Don’t think that Cortes is taking his fight with Kirkland on September, 5th in Austin, Texas, at the Austin Music Hall on ESPN’S Friday Night Fights lightly. Cortes just knows that everything that can be said about Kirkland, can be said about him. http://fightbeat.com/news_details.php?NW=21809
the irony in these press releases is that said fighter usually gets lit up in a fight that's not even remotely competitive for however long or short it lasts. I give the guy credit, though. Agreeing to fight Kirkland a few months after getting blasted by Angulo takes some balls - either that, or requires a complete lack of brain cells.
Agreed on the press releases, and I'm fully expecting it here. Cortes just isn't very good...which makes it all the more pathetic that Goossen has had him main event in San Jose before...in set ups.
