Highly unlikely. However stylewise it's one of those fights where the possiblity of an upset is at least on the table.
He could, yes! I just don't think Curry was a TOUGH fighter. He had great skills, naturally, but without toughness an upset is always possible.
Curry at his best would barely lose a round against Mayorga at his best. Face-first, no-defense brawlers were made to order for Curry in his prime. And before someone brings up the Honeyghan fight, there was clearly something physically wrong with Curry in that fight. Curry by late TKO while miles ahead on the scorecards.
This has nothing to do with this particular thread, but Ive always noticed a bit of a double standard you have. Your always quick to point out that Curry was nowhere near his best when he lost Honeyghan, but at the same time would attempt to argue with the Tyson fans when they claim the same about Tyson's loss to Douglas. Just a lil something I noticed. Bot for the record, I agree. Curry takes Mayorga apart and stops him. I just wanted to see what Sly had to say, I know he hates Curry.:: Sly hates Curry so much, he's picked MOSLEY over Curry in MM's.
Dunno X...There is a difference here. Tyson's loss to Douglas happened during his prime. He may have not prepared properly for that fight, but he looked just fine in his pre-prison, post Douglas fights. Curry, on the other hand, struggled to make weight prior to the Honeyghan fight (his move up to 154 had been planned for a while)and he stayed at 147 for one fight too long. Honeyghan was a good fighter, but I don't think he could have beaten Curry if that were not the case. Since Curry could no longer make 147 without seriously weakening himself in the process, I think it's fair to say that Curry's best days at 147 were behind him. Tyson, on the other hand, was still Tyson, he probably just didn't take Douglas as seriously as he should have and paid the price. I think you're a little mixed up here, or maybe wanna give me grief for picking on Mikey::, but I've never claimed Tyson was 100% in the Douglas fight or that Tyson probably wouldn't win a rematch. I DO argue with Tyson fans when they try to claim Tyson was past prime (or that he was washed-up 1 second after he KOed Michael Spinks:: ) at that time in his career, because I don't think he was. If Tyson had not gone to jail, I believe he would have had difficulty replicating his earlier domination of the division, but not because he was suddenly washed-up, but rather that he had much more demanding opposition. BTW...I fully expect Sly to respond to your post (not mine because he doesn't have the stones to debate me directly) with something like "word" or "fact, not fiction or something equally lame.::
All these excuses for Curry's loss to Honeyghan. What about when he got cold-cocked by McCallum? Too much deepthroating the night before? ::
