Mayorga knocks him out. Taylor, as I've said, is as much mythology as he is reality, but his best days (& he was a much better fighter than Mayorga, who has lost to every world-class opponent he's ever faced, sans one) were well & truly behind him when he stepped up in weight. Taylor was sluggish (of foot) & stifled by a combination of relaxed training, a permanently damaged knee (even before he fought Chavez in '90), & the punishment he'd absorbed in that unforgettable fight. Mayorga gets on top & bullies him into a stoppage, IMO.
I can envision Ramonza's scenario of the fight playing out, but I tend to think that Taylor could pull out a decision. At least the version that beat Aaron Davis. Taylor wasnt really ruined by the Chavez fight. Altered yes, but he still had a good amount in the tank... until Norris beat the shit outta him, THEN he was washed up. Taylor by UD, but Mayo is a live underdog.
its a pick em... Taylor had the blinding speed to completely bamboozle Mayorga but he was also vastly more fragile when he was 147 and the very average power he had at 140 was even less prevalent at 147... he gave a good showing against Aaron Davis to win the title, but Davis was made to order for him being that he was somewhat slow and by nature a careful counterpuncher who liked to throw one good shot at a time... Taylor completyely outworked him... I think Mayorga's antics would fire Meldrick up and make him stay in close just a little too long and get hit too often... to me the outcome depends on if Mayorga can do the damage he needs to do before he runs out of time
