Wow. Hopkins was better than him, that just needs to be said. Heil Hopkins. Now, back to Briscoe, I heard he was robbed vs Monzon both times, once with a verdict, the second time with questionable refereeing
One of the best contenders ever... just not quite could good enough to win the title... The first Monzon fight is a mystery because as far as I know, it doesnt exist anywhere on film the second one, when monzon was champion? Monzon won at least 12 rounds in that fight... Briscoe just couldn't get past his jab... must be some new revisionist thing going on if anyone thinks that fight was fishy, it wasnt anyhow, RIP
One fight was a draw that people think Briscoe shaded. The other fight, Briscoe lost a lot of rounds but had Monzon going off a big right, and the ref did a Joe Cortez and intervened, allowed Monzon to recuperate. That's what I heard. Of course, that's a bit like Herschel Fatmann, Salitas handler, telling us all that everyone was afraid of Salita. Boxers and their people will say fucking anything.::
:: no, he did wobble Monzon, but to say he had him going would be an overstatement, and it was his sole highlight...
A Joe Cortez? Did you mean a Tony Perez? Or did Cortez pull a similar move in a different fight other than Perez in the Ali-Frazier 2 match?
"The cause of death has not been determined, but Peltz said Briscoe had been in declining health for several years. He died in hospice care after being admitted to Temple University Hospital a week ago. Services have not been announced." http://www.kansascity.com/2010/12/29/2548066/legendary-philly-fighter-bennie.html#ixzz19WPpd4Nc
