I think Jones uses his speed to keep away from EMM and wins a close decision. EMM never learned to let his hands go in the big moments It would take him too long to get going... I think he makes a serious charge late though
You make the valid point that was Eddie's knock during his career as he just wouldn't let that sizzling right hand go at times. Eddie was a beautiful boxer/puncher, yet a very frustrating fighter to root for for the reasons you described. However; in a 15 round fight, IMO Mustafa would have pulled the trigger on that right with a follow up left hook similat what he did to Lotte Mwale and taken Jones out.
Difference in speed and movement in favor of Jones is too great. He would see Muhammed's punches and catch him more in return. Jones by a quite comfortable decision
I like Eddie in this one. As ponderous as Eddie could be was he was also relentless - no way would he tacitly quit like so many Roy opponents did. He was also light years craftier and more skilled than any pressure fighter Roy ever faced so I don't think he would be neutered by Roy's speed for 15 rounds either. He would have successes from the 5th or 6th onward and I think he by the later rounds he would have Roy in his shell and probably take a close decision. Thats how I see the fight. 8-6-1 Muhammed.
:atu: okay Roy can't do, what Radames Cabrera, Bennie Briscoe, Victor Galindez or James Scott could do?? :notallthere: You guys are talking primes here or what Muhammad could have done to Roy when he was 36 and keep in mind he was KOed in 3 by some bum at that age himself... Roy schools him 11 out of 10 times.
Uh, oh...looks like someone has been BoxRec surfing. Nothing personl...but I don't know if I expect an objective analysis of a Roy Jones fight by someone with the forum handle "His_Royness." ::
let me just step in before we barrage on a boxrec motivated guy. I love me some 70's LHW's. Michael Spinks is confidentially one of my favorite fighters ever, similar thoughts on Braxton/Qawi, and EMM/Johnson. But seriously, RJJ is an entire league above EMM.
overall? sure but styles make fights, jaws if EMM had learned to let his hands go, we might very well be thinking of him as a top ten LHW all time... he was that talented And only HutHut so far picked him to win, the rest of us all picked Jones No one would even consider debating that Jones isnt CLEARLY the greater fighter, he obviously is but this isnt Richard Hall or David Telesco or Eric Harding we are matching him up with either EMM definitley could win some rounds here, especially late, IMO
