At 140lb.... At first you may think Duran walks through Hatton, batters him senseless then pisses on him for good measure. Think again. :nono:
Duran walks through him, and batters him senseless, but prolly doesnt piss on him cause Ricky would be respectful.
Buchanan was a mover, and master boxer. Hatton would be right in front of Duran, trading with him, with no defense, which equals suicide. Ricky would be lucky to last any longer than 6 or 7 rounds.
Hmmm...Xplosive what do you think would have happen if Roberto Duran faced Kirkland Laing? "Prolly" a 5 round slaughter?
no. But you act as though Duran was some Terminator. Duran wasn't some superhero that would walk through any modern fighter like they weren't even there.
Duran wouldnt walk through every fighter in history, but he'd walk through Hatton for sure. Ricky is absoloutely tailor made for him. I think Duran at his best beats everyone from 140 down in history, except for MAYBE a prime Whitaker.
The question is, do you think the Duran who fought Laing is the same as the guy who fought Leonard or the lightweight version of Duran? Why would you select Duran in one of his worst fights and match him with Hatton? Hell, what does that say about Hagler, who Duran lost a close decision to a year later? Why not select the version of Duran that ruined Davey Moore? You're ridiculous.
I think Sly dislikes Duran almost as much as he does Shane. Maybe because both are precieved as would have been threats to his boy.
???? Buchanan and Hatton fight nothing alike. Anyway, Duran wins an ugly fight, with all the clinching. Probably a mid to late rounds stoppage, with bodywork being key.
Ever thought that MAYBE, just MAYBE...the same Duran that lost to Laing would have had the same result vs Hagler. Listen...I remember the BULLSHIT surrounding Fernando Vargas after he beat Ike Quartey. People were saying that he was a much better fighter that night than he was the night he struggled with Wright. They assumed that he only struggled with Wright because he wasn't at his best. I called bullshit then and I'm calling bullshit on that now (as everyone else would with hindsight. Perhaps Duran wasn't this invincible monster that everyone thought he was and it took the right style to throw him off. Anyway...he beats Hatton, but he was in NO WAY close to invincible.
I see Hatton having some good rounds; I can see that....he's very strong and quick-handed and can be just as rough and bullish as Duran in alot of ways. But STAMINA here is the key. And that's where Duran pulls away. That, and his ability to punish and rough-house just as much; plus his caginess, MUCH better inside defense, ability to jab and throw the counter right inside and outside...and generally give Hatton his own medicine back 'til he can't take it no more. Peace.
He isn't and never was an invincible monster - did he ever generate an aura that Tyson projected? No. I remember watching both his fights with Leonard and he was considered a tough fighter, just approaching legendary status, but there was definately no 'unbeatable punching machine' aura about him at all. Hatton, late.
Yes. Way too much talk of how the guys of the 70s/80s would be total 'fighting machines' and plaster today's guys all over the ring. I grew up watching Ali, Hagler, Duran, Leonard, Hearns, etc.... but I see the best of today giving them a good run... Hatton, Mayweather, Hopkins, Wright, Mosley, De la Hoya would all cope with those guys....
your mistake is throwing Hatton in with PBF, Hopkins, Wright, Mosley and ODH. he's not "that" good. this isn't about 00's vs. 80's. it's about Hatton vs. Duran, and the fact that Hatton isn't nearly as good.
That's fair, and I acknowledge that Hatton would be competitive, especially at 140... But that doesn't mean he beats Duran - much less stops him. I understand wanting to balance out the trend you're talking about...but that doesn't mean we can paint every match-up with the same brush. Guys from the "golden era" will win some; guys from the modern era will win others. I see nothing to convince me that Hatton STOPS Duran....nothing at all. Duran was never legitimately stopped (as in by a punch-induced TKO/KO) until Hearns at 154....and that was an aberration; the absolute perfect punch delivered by a monster puncher with his best punching hand (the right). I think Hatton starts strong...until Duran warms up over the distance and cinches the noose late. Peace.
I honestly dont believe this fight is being seriously debated. I'm sure not even HATTON himself thinks he coulda beaten a young Duran.
But if Hatton's body hooks take the wind out of PBF, don't you think they could wear Durabn out also? I mean, PBF has hardly ever looked even tired, if Hatton is able to stop him, I think he is much better puncher than he now gets credit for
