Report: Frank Mir, Minotauro Nogueira tapped as TUF 8 coaches

April 17, 2008 By: Adam Morgan Category: TUF 8, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Frank Mir
Cage Potato is reporting that Frank Mir and Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauroâ€￾ Nogueira have been selected as the coaches for the next season of The Ultimate Fighter reality television show:
An unofficial source tells Cage Potato that the coaches have been signed for the next season of The Ultimate Fighter, and they are none other than UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and former champ Frank Mir.
This would indicate that Mir will get the next title shot against Nogueira and the two will likely face off in a pay per view extravaganza at the end of the season. Coming off of a season with personable guys like Forrest and Rampage, Nogueira and Mir may be a change for the worst. The UFC seems infatuated with making the coaches for TUF fight one another for a title at the end of the season but I don’t think Mir and Nogueira will be able to carry a season of TUF like Forrest and Rampage, Matt Hughes and Matt Serra, Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture, etc.

Most of the fanbase only knows Frank Mir because he beat Brock Lesnar and most of them have no clue about Nogueira’s past history and likely have only seen him fight because they bought the UFC 81 pay per view that Lesnar vs. Mir was a part of. Putting these two as the coaches of the next season could prove to be costly as far as ratings go.

Mir would probably make an excellent coach because he is a very intelligent and well spoken guy with a lot of charisma, but is NOguiera's English good enough for such a role?

My biggest concern is that the Heavyweight belt will be held up for most of the year.

I love TUF, think it's a brilliant concept, and it does great things for the UFC, but it is inexcusable that they hold up the titles for almost a year because of it.

Mir Does Commentary for WEC & REED Saw his "Countdown" Show w/Brock Lesnar...VERY Well Spoken Guy who can EXPLAIN Shit for Ordinary Joes...Add N the Fact that Mir is 1 of the BETTER Submission Guys N the World & REED Thinks he'd Make an EXCELLENT Coach...

Unfortunately, Noguiera's Very STOIC, which Doesn't Bode Well for his Television Personality...

I don't care if he has personality or not. It would be an honour for any fighter trying to get into MMA to learn under somebody as skilled and as seasoned as Minotauro. That guy has a long and storied history and is one of the best fighters who ever lived. He's got the credentials to prove it, not only in Pride but even right now in the UFC, having won the world heavyweight title.
The only guy who made Nog look like a novice was Fedor Emelianenko in their first fight. But that's Fedor for ya! No shame in losing to him.
Fedor really pummelled him good and Nog just wouldn't give in.:eeeek: Nog's face was pizza after that fight.

I'd rather learn from an all time great in Big NOG ,than from an underacheiver like MIR.I expect the fighters there to be crossing there fingers to be on Nogeira's team.

Rampage and Forrest are way better than all those guys personality wise. They will never have two coaches as funny as those two again.

Frank should be an awesome coach. He'll be able to teach his disciples how to eat 3 big plates of spaghetti and meatballs a day, without even trying.
