The World Fighting Alliance, scheduled for July 22 in Los Angeles and aired live on Pay-Per-View, added what could be its biggest fight on Wednesday with the announcement that former UFC heavyweight champion will return to fighting after a seven-year absence to face.

“I’ve managed to stay pretty close to 'fighting shape' amidst my involvement with the IFL and my broadcasting work," Rutten stated in a WFA press release, "and I’m confident that my skills will be sharp as ever when I face Kimo on July 22nd.â€￾

After returning from a four-year hiatus in 2002, the tattooed Kimo has gone 3-2 in the WFA, UFC, Rumble on the Rock and PRIDE.

“I’ve helped this sport come from bare knuckles, no rules and no excuses to where it is today, and for this man to select me specifically as the target for his comeback is an insult to everything I’ve accomplished,â€￾ said Kimo in the release. “This will be the shortest comeback of all time, and Bas will regret the day he chose me for his return to the cage.â€￾

I Just looked up his stats on sherdog.. I had no idea Randleman was his last fight. Why would he want to go out on such a contraversial fight? I just saw it a few minutes ago (for the first time) and I'm certain he didnt win a single round.

I knew about the randleman fight being controversial before I saw it but that decision was a goddamn disgrace. Bas's nose didnt break by itself.

There are two fights on that entire card that was worth a shit. Jackson v Lindland and the Rutten fight. Shit, the Rutten fight is only interesting because of the fact that everyone loves Bas.

    The card is still crud.

Bas shouldn't comeback, but since he is, a bout with Kimo is not a good indicator. If Kimo manages a win somehow, Bas should go back to commentating. If Bas blasts Kimo out, which I think he will, it won't show much. Keep in mind that Kimo lost quickly to Can Shamrock, and more recently to Ikuhisa "The Mediocre" Minowa in a bout that looked really suspect.

Bas should take on a KOTC-type fighter or Don Frye for a better measuring stick.

LOL...Don Frye? You call Minowa mediocre and then name Don fucking Frye as a measuring stick? What is this, 1997? Frye is shot and has been involved in a number of worked fights over recent years.

Sometimes I wonder if some of you guys even have the smallest of clues.

Frye fought in the KOTC recently and fought to a draw. Minowa gets flattened consistently, and don't be such a little cocksucker, FromTheAnus. :jester:

Frye is definitely a step up from frigging KIMO. I mean, why don't they just dig up Steve Jennum or Jason DeLucia for Bas to fight.

Why is Frye a stepup from Kimo? They're both from the same generation. Both as worn out as each other. Both have had their reputatin tarnished by being involved in numerous fixed fights and neither is worth a shit.

Minowa is a REAL MMA fighter. He doesn't take dives if the right person asks and isn't middle fucking aged. Jesus christ already....DON FRYE? :grandpa:

Let's see...why is Frye a stepup from Kimo.
    1. Frye didn't get stopped in a minute by Ken Shamrock a few years ago WITH ONE KNEE!
    2. Frye recently had a tough fight in KOTC whereas Kimo laid down for Minowa.
    3. Frye has recently started putting together wins; Kimo has not.

There's three reasons for why, at this point in time, Frye would be a stepup.

Frye got stopped with ONE HIGH KICK....by Gary Goodridge.

Frye and Kimo are 10 years ago. They haven't been players of ANY sort since then. But you keep believing. They're busy working two-bit shows and laying down for the highest bidder. Frye would piss hot if he fought again under a reputable as well.

who gives a shit.....Kimo nor Don Frye is the story, its all about Bas returning, whether he'll be worth a shit or not really the big deal. Bas probably should have stayed on the sidelines and kept coaching and talking into mics though....

Bas ain't back until he beats someone with a pulse. If he's going to fight on the old timer circuit, I'd rather him just stick to talk about it.,
