We all slept on this, I did at least, not because I didn't think Ryder had a chance (which I didn't think he had) but because it was a cross roads fight that leads absolutely nowhere, not that I can see at least. Canelo? Dead end. Been there. Done that. Eubank? Waste of fucking space, plus hes at 160. Thoughts?
On the undercard, Felix Cash was dropped twice en route to a 10 round decision over some "Russian". Cash is one of these British middleweight who excel at the local and European level but fall short when they meet real World talent. Think Ensley Bingham, Howard Eastman, Robert McCracken, Darren BAKER, Herol Graham, Matt Macklin, etc etc.
It sort of goes nowhere doesn't it. Ryder will see the £££ and a big night out and obviously that's his business. But as a fan I found it surreal. A legit crossroads fight. Can't afford to lose. Barely worth winning either.
I don't really anyone who rates Jacobs highly at all. This is good for Ryder though, it's about time he got a fair shake. I hope he actually gets the Canelo fight, because he'll be set for life if he's does. If not, I'm happy to see some other dust ups at world level, maybe even a Smith rematch. Cash was never any good, but he's always been fun to watch and I think people are too harsh on those kind of guys. Nobody's saying they're the next Roberto Duran; they just enjoy watching them.
Oh I agree, he's never bigged himself up, globally. Cash is the quintessentially local hero sort of boxer.... He'll be around for a while yet dominating shows of a certain nature. He's classic British champ material. I want to see him fight Eubank. There'll be some dickheads at Ringside that night I can assure you. Its gonna be rammed with knob heads.
He obviously wasn't very good. There was no need for anyone to overrated him. Probably the cancer did it.
I still shake my head when I remember that simple fucker Mendoza over on ESB saying that Jacobs is better than Kalambay. Or BCS8, who ought to know better, saying that he's better than anyone Toney beat at middle ie Nunn and McCallum. All because a large majority picked Kalambay and Toney to beat Golovkin and they both hated it. It was awesome, the sheer contrarian childish spite on display was next level.
That and Ryder was owed at least one from the Smith fight, the Fielding fight, and arguably the Saunders fight.
Good to see Jacobs not getting the decision. He's been fortunate more than once. Getting rewarded throwing a couple of jabs and a 1-2 every so often. He should have more losses on his record.
