It's a bizarre story It's about this fellow called Sixto Rodriguez who was sort of a folk singer/singer-songwriter from Detroit in the early 1970s... He put out a record that nobody bought in America and did a couple of short tours of Australia He faded into complete obscurity, living a blue-collar existence for years Unbeknownst to him, his music had become wildly popular and influential in South Africa where he was truly famous... Since no one could actually account for his whereabouts, lots of legends cropped up including that he had killed himself... He's living in Detroit, working 9 to 5, has no idea that he's this huge star in South Africa... Eventually the next generation of his fans (1990s) started earnestly trying to find him... And they succeeded That's what the film is about
