Taylor BARELY beat Spinks.... that just about says it all. Dzinziruk would have pushed Taylor to the limit, and possibly beat him.

Martinez beats the shit outta him, and stops him.

Taylor however did beat Bernard Hopkins and drew with Winky Wright, who both are somewhat comparable fighters to Martinez.

I know people are now instructed to shit on Taylor's chest whenever possible, but Taylor at his best would give a tough fight to Martinez

Styles make fights. Taylor had a handspeed edge over Hopkins, and Winky. Against Martinez he'd be made to look slow. Neither Hopkins, nor Winky have the explosive power of Martinez either.

Knowing how reckless, and dumb JT is, he'd eventually tire and walk right into a straight left from Martinez, and get put away.

Stylewise I think it'd be a very one sided fight.

Williams did however give Martinez trouble first time out with his reach (which he uses poorly) and work ethic. While Taylor can't throw as much, he could be able to use his reach and jab to keep Martinez at bay

Williams gave Martinez trouble by ATTACKING him, and putting on constant pressure. Thats not JT's style, and never was.

He'd find ZERO success fighting Martinez at distance. Again... JT had trouble with the quickness, and southpaw style of Spinks. How in the world is he gonna cope with Martinez's speed?

As stiff, and robotic as Taylor has always been, he'd have NO defense for Martinez's straight left. Spinks, and Winky hit him with basically every straight left they threw.

Terrible style matchup for Taylor. UGBK's points are well-taken, but Taylor would have to build up a huge lead early or else he's simply not winning this fight.

My guess is that the fight would (at best) be close through 7 or 8, but Taylor is spent heading into the final four rounds and either settles for going the distance, or exceeds his grasp and gets knocked out doing so.

I'd go with Martinez...Sergio would have countered him to death...Taylor's jab would have been spot on but once he got off the jab and threw more of those bow and arrow right hands...martinez fucks him up.

Winky Wright is about as comparable to Maravilla as I am.

Maravilla is a bigger stronger man, just for openers.

Martinez has got to be the most overrated fighter I've ever seen on this site. He was hurt by Pavlik, and that fight was up for grabs before the cut. The Williams knockout was an aberration. Dzinziruk was a very good win though.

I do see him beating Taylor however.

You think so? I guess he has bigger muscles. Taylor is a few inches taller. Martinez was a junior middle for quite a while.

I think he meant bigger and stronger than Winky, although that's not entirely accurate, either. They are about the same size. Martinez might be a bit more defined, but Winky generally weighs more (save for their official fight weight).

Martinez is up by a small margin late prior to stretching Taylor.
