    Prime vs Prime

Two speedy slicksters that have been in with the best of them. Mosley slightly faster of hand and slightly more powerful. Floyd the better boxer, more elusive, smarter. Both have dependable chins.

    Who wins?

Floyd of course. 8-4 type UD.

I think Floyd via 7-5 type decision.

Shane would make a fight of it, though.

"Merriweather" by decision, possibly in the same type of fight - Shane hurts him early, Floyd never looks back once he gains momentum.

The biggest (and perhaps only) difference would be how many rounds Shane banks early and at what point Floyd takes over for good.

For some reason (reluctance to mix it up with bigger fighters, perhaps), Floyd became a slow starter once he moved up to 147. Would've been up to Shane to both jump to an early lead AND pace himself to where he's not done in the second half, but I don't believe he was ever that type of fighter once he left 135.

They might split ten fights evenly.

Heavy hustle & a high output is only going to be welcomed by Mayweather if the man producing it lacks either serious power, or terrific speed. Mosley absolutely had the latter, & we've already seen he has the power in just one shot to hurt Mayweather. The follow-up ten years ago was a hell of a lot better than it is nowadays. I really don't see Mayweather having anything close to an easy time with the 2000 version of Mosley (or for that matter, De La Hoya of the same essential period), but if really pushed for a one-off result, I'd lean marginally toward Mayweather.

It sure wouldn't be easy, but who makes adjustments better than he does? Very few in the modern era, that's for sure. My feeling is if Mayweather wins, he does so by chasing a Mosley lead, with the latter's speed & combinations (the latter of which hadn't been properly present in years by the time they actually fought), & running him down on points at the death. When you're as conservative as the 147lb. Mayweather so often is, you need to be a specialist sharp-shooter & counter-puncher to do that --- & there is every chance Mosley keeps his lead, albeit by a dissipating margin, to steal the fight.

I say we make the words 'Floyd' 'Pac' 'Manny' 'Pacquiao' 'Pacman' 'Mayweather' etc expletives which get blanked out until a contract is signed. And 3 mentions of either constitutes a week ban.:crafty:

I love it --- but surely Mythical Match-ups could be an exemption zone...after all, we're only discussing Mayweather in this forum because he won't make a lot of the fights in reality he could have

nah. Mosely hit harder. Mosely was better at beating come forward Mexican style fighters. And maybe had a better chin. The other chap is better in every other single department.

I'm not entirely convinced Mayweather was faster than the vintage Mosley.

Like some have said. It depends on whether PBF can chase down a lead in the second half of the fight, or if SSM can win a couple of late rounds.
I'm guessing that SSM wins 3 of the first 5 picks up a 2-3 later rounds (one from hurting PBF), & rallies in the last to win a SD for being the agressor.
