BoxingScene.com has been advised that a fight between WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley and former champion Joshua Clottey is a done deal for December 26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The fight will be televised by HBO.

From what I was told, Clottey has hired Miguel Diaz to train him for the fight and he plans to set up his training camp in Las Vegas at the Top Rank gym. Clottey will report to camp around the second week of October.

I guess Shane wants to stay busy as this is a no win situation for him.

The day after Christman isn't usually the best day for boxing.

Does this mean Pavlik-Williams got the December 5th date?

If so, then Dec. 5th - with Bradley-Peterson on SHO - could be a pretty good night of boxing.

    I like this match-up a lot.

Hopefully they don't need Santa to give away tickets to get a good crowd.

    I don't know about that.

Barring a knockout, it may be a no-win situation for Clottey...just as it was against Cotto.

"Mosley had a Dec. 5 date to fight on HBO, but Schaefer said HBO asked him to move it to Dec. 26 so HBO can do the Kelly Pavlik-Williams fight on Dec. 5.

"HBO asked me to move it and I discussed it with Shane, so it looks like that's what we're going to do," Schaefer said.

Williams' promoter, Dan Goossen, said Wednesday he was still waiting for the doctor's report that would give Pavlik - who is suffering from a staph infection on his left hand - total clearance to fight."

I'm speaking career wise naturally. Shane is a well known star in boxing and coming off a huge win. Clottey couldn't fill the seats in his home town.

Mosley would be better off dusting an easy "name" opponent like Judah. He could stay busy, get paid and on top of it risk little.

I don't think he'd get big dollars against Clottey and yet he could lose and put himself in the reverse situation of high risk low reward.

I take a wild guess how the fight will go.

It will be pretty even for six rounds. In rounds seven and eight Clottey looks like he´s taking over, establishing a 5-3 lead. It appears the old legs have finally caught up with Mosley, when all of a sudden Clottey goes into cruise control and gets outworked in the last four rounds by a 38 year old Shane Mosley. Mosley wins a SD by scores of 115-113, 115-114, 113-115. Afterwards Clottey complains that he was robbed.

Clottey's probably more affordable than Judah.

For a 'star', Mosley's certainly been doing a lot of begging for fights.

Clottey's a tough fight, but let's be real, if the fight's competitive and goes twelve, it's unlikely Clottey's getting a decision.

If that's how it goes, then Mosley stays busy, gets (the lions share) of an HBO payday, and goes back to wishing and waiting for a bigger fight.

Of course, it could be a difficult, physical fight, and he could always get cut and have to wait a bit longer than he wants...but Mosley wants to get paid.

Well i see the fight going basically as El Terrible has posted. Maybe judges will be influenced how Clottey has been "robbed" in the past, and look to score close rounds his way?

I doubt it, but not inconceivable.

The main point is Mosley has more to lose than gain. He's not going to retire regardless of the outome against Clottey. However if he loses, he can forget about getting even close to parity against any top level fighter.

Even worse is he may not to get to fight the likes of Pacquiao or Mayweather at all.

Kudos to Shane for not fighting the unworthy Judah....and instead fighting a guy who is absolutely hard to really shine against.

BTW.....easy decision win for Shane here.

Actually, he has money to gain from this fight....and it's (basically) a home town fight of which he's the promoter.

    you gotta give him that..

that's one of the reasons I like Shane..

if he loses... he'll go on and have more great fights.. he wants to fight everyone and I think he'll win this one

Of course he has money to gain, boxers don't fight for free.

But he has potentially more to lose. A win over Clottey doesn't do a whole lot to raise his stock even thought it would be a very solid win.

Mayweather, Pacquiao, Marquez or Cotto won't go near him if he loses.

Personally I think he should have fought Cintron who is not only an easier fight, but is actually a bigger name than Clottey.

I voted that Shane will lose a UD to Clottey. Shane may have looked great against Margarito but let's be honest here. Margarito looked like absolute dog shit in that fight. He was slow as any fighter I can recall seeing in years and was tailor made for Shane in that one. Hell, he hardly laid a glove on Shane.

Clottey is a fighter who has a great jab and a great jab against Shane can do wonders. The only positives working for Shane is Clottey's lack of mental toughness and having Nazim in his corner. Based on those factors I gave Shane a shot, but Clottey isn't going to be on a bums level like Margarito was and Shane's age has got to become a factor sooner rather than later. His hand speed has already dipped considerably and he isn't the most defensive guy around, so I got Clottey by UD.

Obviously I'll be rooting for Shane though.

I don't think clottey deserves any more significant fights.

He is boring as fuck, and showed himself to be a bitch in the cotto fight, looking for a way out.

Shane wins a clear decision. Still a stupid fight to take though, as he won't look good against the turtling Clottey.
