Inspired by the bad finishers thread. Fighters who could have got them out of there, but showed mercy & eased up Tito-Reid Pac-Margarito (maybe he couldn't have stopped him, but he definately eased up) RJJ-Tito Ali-Mathis/ Mac Foster Others...?
I thought Jones was more a case of him being unecessarily gunshy, as opposed to merciful. Although I havent seen it since it happened.
Augustus-Oliviera is the winner. Augustus stops throwing head shots and looks to the ref once its obvious somethings wrong.
Excellent example. Augustus really just didn't want to hit the guy anymore after he held the back of his head. Smoger didn't want the fight to continue either.
It was a question, not a criticism. Relax that trigger finger, Neil. Like I was saying, I recall thinking Jones was gunshy moreso than merciful, but that was nearly four years ago. Wasnt this the fight he wore a crown into the arena? ::
In the Brannon fight Jones backed away, pointed at Brannon and asked something of the ref. Obvious sign of being gun-shy
I read that Rocky Marciano also appeared to be taking it too easy against Louis as well. So somebody in his corner said something along the lines of "You've to forget that's Joe Louis and just go out and do your job!"
Eubanks had Collins pinned on the ropes and badly hurt in, I think the 9th round, of their first fight but he then just smiled and stepped away from him. Calzaghe-Jones, whilst a sham of a fight, also saw Joe pretty much stop trying to punch Roy after he cut him in the 7th MTF
