From an interview with Greg Leon and Andre Berto:

GL: My understanding is that Showtime is willing to offer you 3 fights for 2008 starting with a special installment of ShoBox on February 29...

AB: (cutting in) What does that mean special edition?

GL: That means you'd be making almost HBO money to fight on ShoBox.

    AB: OK.

GL: Back to the orginal question. My understanding is that Showtime is willing to offer you 3 fights for 2008 starting with a special installment of ShoBox on February 29. HBO is offering you two fights for 2008 but has been unable to schedule your next fight with certainty up to this point. Do you have a personal preference between the two?

AB: "At this point I don't have a preference. It is business and it sounds like whoever shows the most interest and at the same time shows the most money. I'm going to do my job regardless, but at the same time I want to make sure that I am a commodity to the network. If one network puts up more money that means that they have more interest and feel that I bring more viewers to the station, so you know we'll see."

I like Berto, he's an exciting fighter. Regardless, his defense and chin will not allow him to get to an elite level, especially not in a division like 147.

I agree. He's like a Mosley with slow feet and even less defense. Cotto would destroy him now, but let's see if he improves much.

I think he should fight Judah, whom he even called out on Boxingtalk but bitched up when Judah asked him about it. It's too bad because he could beat Judah. Easily.

Judah said that when someone calls him out it's on whenever he sees them on the streets.

If I were a fighter I'd take the HBO offer. Easy decision....

I'll go with Showtime...they are the ones that still usually build up the careers of prospects....till HBO comes around and take them...

Yeah, most of the top welterweights are on HBO...so Berto might have more room to swim in Showtime's smaller pond.

I guess there's talk of him fighting Judah (who isn't talked about fighting Judah, these days).

It would be great for Berto if Mayweather retired or stepped aside and allowed Berto to fight for a vacant or regular WBC title...especially if it's against one of their top contenders, like Miguel Angel Rodriguez.
