    Dan Rafael:

Good news (and a pleasant surprise) for American fans: Showtime will televise former heavyweight titleholder Vitali Klitschko's Sept. 22 fight against Jameel McCline (38-7-3, 23 KOs) on same-day tape delay, Showtime boxing boss Ken Hershman told ESPN.com. The network is also interested in Klitschko's other future bouts, which makes sense. If he beats McCline, Klitschko (35-2, 34 KOs) is mandatory for the winner of the Oleg Maskaev-Samuel Peter heavyweight title bout, which Showtime will also carry. Klitschko-McCline will officially be announced July 16 in Munich, Germany -- the site of the bout. It will be Klitschko's first fight since retiring because of a knee injury in November 2005. He hasn't fought since December 2004. Showtime's acquisition of the bout means it will air boxing on three consecutive weekends, which is highly unusual. The three-fight stretch includes: Klitschko-McCline on Sept. 22, an in-the-works "Showtime Championship Boxing" card Sept. 29 as part of its free preview weekend and Maskaev-Peter on Oct. 6. "We believe our fall sports lineup, beginning with the Aug. 4 Rafael Marquez-Israel Vazquez rematch and culminating with the heavyweight championship of the world on Oct. 6, is one of the strongest lineups in our 20-plus year history," Hershman said.

well, that's good because Showtime could certainly use a strong Q3-Q4 seeing as how Q1-Q2 for them have been pretty crappy, and has parallelled a pretty good Q1-Q2 for HBO.

McCline is terrible, but it'll be worth watching to see how Vitali looks.

Let's hope he turns McCline into a vegetable, so we never have to watch him again.

I agree, Showtme has been disappointing this year. However, I think tonight's fight card could be a good one - at least the opener - and things will definitely pick up with Marquez-Vazquez II.

The reports are they are going to be the distributer for Vargas-Mayorga, and added with Vitali Klitschko's return and Maskaev-Peter, they have some big events coming up.

Hopefully the free preview card ends up being a good one...along the lines of Dawson-Tarver, which has been a rumor for a while.
