Is some kind of judging committee. Whenever there is a controversial decision they could have it reviewed by this committee who disect and annylaze every rd over and over while discussing it until they all agree on which rd's are won. Once the entire fight has been reviewed the winner is then declared as the "official" winner and we could put an end to all of these bogus decisions that have tainted the sport since the very begining. Hell it might be nice to just have them review every fight even ones that have an obvious winner, just for the hell of it. It's ridiculous that nothing has been done to insure something as important as rewarding the correct winner of a boxing match even though it's negatively plagued the sport since day 1.
Problem is that a fight on tv is much different to watching it live because you can't tell how hard the punches are on tv.
"Correct winner" My goodness, can you sound any more pretentious. WHat is the "corect winner" in tonights fight? You think it was clear?
I didn't even see tonights fight, but it's very controversy is what prompted my idea. Actually I thought of this a few days ago but tonights fight made me remember it. It doesn't have to be for tonights fight, there are a lot worse decisions that have and will happen as boxing continues to stand by and do nothing. I don't know what's worse, the fact that they do nothing or that nobody really realizes that they do nothing. We've been brainwashed into accepting this bane on our sport.
THis isn't ameatuer boxing though. There is never a "correct" result, unless a guy is counted. The rules of the sport aren't even unified from state to state, let alone country to country and this inludes the use of the 10-point must system. There is more wriggle room in the scoring system of this sport than there is in space.
Odd number of rounds sounds great!!!! And then let's gid rid of even rounds!!! EVEN BETTER!!!! And then let's get rid of penalty points!!!! HOT DAMN!!! And then let's not take away points for knockdowns!!!! HOLY SHIT, I think we can solve this damn DRAW EPIDEMIC, after all!!!!
Reasonable people can have different opinions even if they are watching the same thing from the same angle. I'm not saying there aren't things that can be done, even perhaps should be done, but those things have no business touching a fight like tonight's.
..... Very few reasonable people period. It's crazy how many cry baby bitches there are on boxing forums.
It's sort of like the debates over the NCAA tournament selection committee...or, dare I say it, Olympic ice skating. ::
Ice skating has gone too stupid since the one who has won before always wins again (a bit like Mr Olympia in bodybuilding). But yeah, the debates about decisions are fun even if they have been going on for decades. Hagler-Leonard is still a valid discussion
:nono: disputable decisions are indeed fun. When there is no clear winner (such as in Pac-JMM) we get good debates over them. Actual robberies are a different matter altogether, they are not good for the sport. Got it?
I still don't see how that's good for the sport. Boxing message boards yeah, but the sport of boxing, still don't get it.
Imagine if the NBA or MLB did a best of 6 world series or NBA Finals. That's what boxing does with 10 and 12 round fights.
Bump this thread if you want to get into the odd-round discussion: http://www.fightbeat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21028 I think you'll find that your analogy isn't all that accurate.
The major problem with a committee, so far as I can tell and beyond the obvious problems of crowds having to go home without knowing who has won tight match-ups, is the possibility of corruption. No one could possibly convince me that ANY sort of 'judging committee' could or would be beyond a few juicy pay packets...
They already have a committe to deide the winner of fights. So now you want another one? Cos the one we have is so good we want two?
I disagree with this statement .... Wanting the real truth is not being a cry baby bitch. It's a search for the right way of doing things using a "more fair" platform. IMO people who are afraid to push this idea are the real bitches. Lets face it , there are some real fuckin idiots out there and their fly by night decisions looking from down low at the backside of a fighter through ropes and turn buckles may sometimes need to be changed for the better ...
Just what is "the real truth" homeboy? What is "more fair"? Just sound like typical cliched buzz words to me.
Well , I would just feel much more comfortable lets say if the judges were locked in seperate rooms having a constant great view point watching a large screen TV scoring the rounds rather then a judge subconciously getting influenced by the crowd , looking from a lowered down vantage point , through ropes and turn buckles at the backside of a fighter .... It's time to move on ...
