Probably GSP but then again if Chael was a more dominant fighter at his weight we might think different. When Sonnen fights he tends to be the better wrestler regardless of the result as does GSP but he tends turn that dominance into victories.
Joosp is. Who knows if Joosp is still the same fighter, but 2 or 3 years ago he was clearly the best wrestler in MMA.
When GSP was at the top of his game he was the best MMA wrestler in the history of the sport. Unlike Sonnen, GSP is a guy that has faced, and manhandled, a slew of good wrestlers like Koscheck, Hughes, Sherk, Fitch, Shields, Hieron, and Trigg. Despite facing accomplished wrestlers often, GSP still has the best take down defense in the UFC.
I agree. And if he can handle the weight, dont you think its obvious how the GSP vs. Silva fight will go. Especially since he is better than Sonnen.
GSP got knocked out by Matt Sera. He's also way shorter and smaller that Sonnen. It's not a given that he's even able to get inside on Silva without getting knocked out. Sonnen is tougher than GSP which allows him to just bull his way inside and once he get a hold of you, he's relentless with the takdown. I really can't see GSP doing what Sonnen did to Silva.
I agree, GSP is just too small. As Trpl said, can you really imagine Joosp with another 15 pounds of muscle? He'd be way less explosive. Sonnen is a pretty big middleweight, big frame, a naturally bigger man than GSP. But anyway I agree with Trpl's post, at his peak, GSP was the best MMA wrestler ever. It's the fact that he wrestled the shit out of world class wrestlers with a great pedigree that is astounding. He's just some nerdy Canadian guy.

Sure you can, Sonnen and GSP fight in different weight classes. Now, maybe if you had asked if Sonnen would beat GSP if they fought it would be a different discussion. That's not what you said though, you asked if he was a better wrestler, which is basically a p4p discussion since they are not the same size.
Yeah, I mean wtf kind of argument is that. I could think Edgar or Henderson were better wrestlers P4P, but I sure as fuck wouldn't pick them to do the same thing Sonnen did to Silva :: If GSP was the same size as Sonnen, yes, I think he would replicate would Sonnen did, but he isn't, he's significantly smaller than both Sonnen and Silva.
Sonnen is a brute stength wrestler, he gets a hold of guys and keeps driving until he gets it. GSP is a different kind of wrestler. He sets up his shots far better, but doesn't have the stength of Sonnen. Pretty sure I would pick Sonnen to beat GSP head to head.
What is the question here? I'll give you some options. Who would win in a fight between GSP and Sonnen? Who is technically a better wrestler, GSP or Sonnen? Would GSP be able to do what Sonnen did if he fought Silva at a catchweight? Pick one.
Size is a huge difference maker in wrestling. I don't think GSP's wrestling dominance will be nearly as clear at 185 or even 180. And he certainly won't be as good as Sonnen at 185. Sonnen is a monster middleweight.
