Sorry if this one's been done, didn't see it....but.... Thinking about how Shane fought Saturday night, changing distance, more head movement, using angles, and strategic clenching, mixed in with his usual slugging style (more so than what you usually expect from Shane) made me wonder how would "this" version of Sugar Shane Mosely stack up against Thomas Hearns? Obviously Margarito isn't even in the same conversation in regards to Tommy's boxing skills, or power, but would this Shane be able to avoid Tommy's arsenal to deliver his attack? (Shane goes to the body pretty well) I think it would be a very interesting match-up. 12-rounds. Who wins? opcorn:
There's just no way you can ignore the Vernon Forrest fight when thinking of this matchup. It's possible he's improved some under the new trainer but even if that is true, it was against a completely different type of fighter. it doesn't tell us how he'd fair against a boxer. Even Margarito was able to land jabs on Shane's dome. Big difference with Tommy, who's jab was not only faster and harder, but he bought it back up to protect himself. Mosley wouldn't be able to loop right hands back over Hearns' guard so easily. I really don't like Shane's chances at all in this one. He'd have to hope to hurt Tommy at some point and go absolutely all out for a finish.
I never gave Mosley much of a chance of beating Hearns at 147 and I give him even less of one at 37 years old. Shane's performance was impressive this past weekend, but before we get too excited about it...he was fighting a much slower opponent with no defense whatsoever. Hearns would be an entirely different fight and a much more demanding one. I don't see how Shane wins.
Hey Guru! Take this ridiculous ass thread over to boxingfanatics or something. Why the fuck you put Shane in an MM with Tommy Hearns for, you trying to make him look bad or what? He actually said the Mosley of today! Jeez!
