Collins by close decision. Collins was limited by what was not in doubt was that he could deal with guys who were essentially big punchers and not a lot more. Steve had a chin of iron. Benn unloaded at will with bombs in their fights and couldn't budge him, nor could Eubanks. I see no reason why G-Man could, especially at 168 where Collins campaigned most successfully and G-Man's only fight ended with him almost dead.
I dunno who would have won, but I know it wouldn't have been fucking Steve Collins, thats for damn sure.
Why not? What did G-Man do at 168 apart from almost die in his single fight at that weight? I'm not saying that Collins was some kind of great fighter or anything like that, but McClellan turned out to be an almost carbon copy of Nigel Benn, especially @ 168 where he couldn't finish off a fighter many presumed (and still do) to be 'chinny'. A banger whose power didn't quite seem to carry from 160 to 168. And Collins beat (a diminished version of) Nigel. Twice. Seriously, McClellan may be the most overrated MM operator of all time. Despite having his career ended because of his insane habit of allowing punchers like Jackson and Benn to land power shots at will on his head, he seems to be unbeatable in almost every MM he appears in. :dunno:
No, Duddy has a jab and no chin. Collins is every Irish other Irish fighter, without the talent. He was a tough, dirty, insignificant twat.
Yeah that the great Roy Jones ran from..... I agree with the Feebs Collins gets the decision over the G. G-Man couldn't handle Benn and only a year later Collins spanked him, you cant really compare fights like this but if shows how tough Collins was.
Benn was hypnotized into beating McClellan! Let's be honest - Collins' greatest wins were: * Eubank x 2 (not only a non puncher, but a non-boxer it seems, too) * Benn x 2 (utterly shot) Alternatively, McClellan's greatest wins were: * Jackson x (blind, but a P4P puncher with stupid haircut) * Mugabi x 1 (more shot than Benn) As it is, at 168, I feel Collins' conditioning and workrate would see him through....just.
As Gerald is slumping off his stool, Nigel to that ITV gimp: '"I'd just, SHUT UP, I'd just like to thank...Paul McKenna..." ::
Much as I wish it was, it was, twas not. It was that skinny little 'ringside gimp'. So insignificant he was that his name escapes me.
