It's been a while since I watched 'The Gloves are off'. Some great fighters chatting shit and Ritchie Woodhall  For those who haven't seen it:

Roy comes across well, as do most of the others. Collins, on the other hand, is a bitter cunt.

A conversation between Collins and Froch would be fun.

Lots of chat around Canelo. The best at 168 today. Anyone reckon he beats any of these gadges except daft Ritchie?

You watched this? Roy comes across really well. He just watches all these lesser guys fight themselves daft.

Yup, I watched this years ago. Wouldn't mind rewatching it though.

Great watching Eubanks ripping the shit out of Collins for bottling a fight with Calzaghe. About 12 minutes in. Has his life.

Honestly, I think the farmer does him. I know you'll disagree, but I don't rate Collins much at all.

If anyone has not watched this, go to 24 minutes in and see Eubanks explain why he never crossed the pond.

    I think Froch-Collins would've been a close fight.

Yup, it would have been a great watch. I'd back the farmer to outgut him, though.

    Really 50-50.

A high speed chessmatch favors Froch. An all out tear up favors Collins.

Though his status is at an all time high right now, I firmly believe Collins would have been a very tough fight for Canelo. I dunno if Collins actually pulls it off (probably not), but he gives Canelo problems.

Collins certainly wouldn't be mentally beaten the way Stiff and Plant were.

I felt it was kind of sad to see Calzaghe put on a pedestal when the only ATG here was Jones. I watched this years ago but had forgotten about Colins claiming Toney was taking sips of Cola while training lol.

Collins seems bitter as hell about not fighting Jones but I am not too familiar with this situation as it happened just before I started watching boxing. But having watched some of his fights and looking at his record, I doubt there was a big demand for this fight outside the UK and Ireland.

Eubanks, unsurprisingly, play the ''moral high ground'' card but in fact, he's instigating throughout lol. Was a bit shocking to hear him say so plainly he didn't care about being more than a big fish in a small pond, even though it was obvious to everyone that knows the sport.

I feel Collins defeats against Mike McCallum and Reggie Johnson are more revealing than his wins over Eubank and Benn. He beat those two because of when he faced them and he lost to McCallum and Johnson because he wasn't quite good enough.

I agree that Collins-Froch is a good matchup but I'd probably lean slightly towards Froch.

Collins in fairness to him knows he got handed nothing and had to go on the road back in the day and fight the very very best repeatedly.

Today, he'd be making fucking millions for fuck all and I can tell you, Canelo wouldn't have gone near him.

Instead, he made shite to fight the best, so I don't blame him.

Timing is something you can't train or buy and either you have it or you don't.

No. Gulf in talent between somebody like Plant or Smith vs Benn or Eubank or Collins is beyond "Vast". It's fucking massive.

Both Plant and Smith were not just physically inferior, they were mentally inferior.

It amazes me how so many people do not realize how SOFT people are today.

Collins rocked up in the USA and had to be sparring and fight-fodder while making his own career on the side.

Even when he came back to Ireland, the only venue for the fight with Eubank was a converted cow-shed.

Mike McCallum? I mean would Plant even get work sparring that guy?

Yeah but those can be found everywhere. I'm asking specifically about the levels of animal dung at the venue.

    Probably.

There's plenty of instances of McCallum fighting at 170ish in his prime though, and that version beats everyone from SMW down.

There is validity to what Irish said. Its not just nostalgic today, guys today do seem to be on average, mentally weaker. That's not unique to boxing, either. Modern athletes don't seem as mentally tough as previous generations.

Eubank and Benn, win or lose, wouldn't be in there asking Canelo are they good or not.

Social media has created a world where young ppl need affirmation from their peers.

I'm hoping Boots is a throwback to old fighters, cause Fimo, Haney, and Ryan all seem to have emotional deficits.

I don't think we can generalize from Plant "discussion" with canelo, since it's pretty much an unique occurence. But yes, it does seems that athletes are getting weaker mentally, though i wonder if its not only because social media make them more accessible

For sure it's not all social media but i think it's played a big part. It's turned a lot of "regular" people into borderline narcissists. Now think of athletes who've actually at least accomplished something and add millions of dollars. There's no such thing as a valid criticism to them, only "hating".

I have no idea what you've just said there. You mean kids are asking other kids what presents they have for them before they get their invite?
