Spielberg must prepare for the backlash of casting mostly non-Hispanics to play leading roles as Puerto Ricans and casting Ricans in minor roles. For my part I am happy that bootylicious singer/actress/dancer babe, Ana Isabel, 35, from Caguas, Puerto Rico, is having a (minor) role in this movie. Ana Isabelle
Watched this film today as my wife dragged me to come along with her (I didn't like the original so I didn't cared about this remake). My verdict? I loved it. Spielberg's version is superior to the original in many areas. The dialogue wasn't as corny as the original and the dance sequences done in outdoors surpasses the fake done at stages scenarios of the original. The actress that plays Anita, Ariana DeBose, deserves an Academy Award nomination. IMO this is a sure candidate for Best Picture of the Year. Yes, it has some PC woke moments, but they weren't that many nor too distracting to ruin my enjoyment of the film as a whole. 8.5/10
The songs are the same. Yeah the accents were a little over-the-top at times as some of these 'Puerto Ricans' were not really Spanish speaking or Rican at all.
