I was watching Taylor's fight with Alex Bunema the other day. This is perhaps the ONLY fight in which Jermain has ever looked like a P4Pder. I remember after watching this fight I thought Taylor was in fact a future star, but he hasnt looked nearly as good in any fight since then, even though he's still "undefeated". Bunema wasnt a world beater, but he wasnt a bum either. The way Taylor took him apart and destroyed him was highly impressive, and his jab in that fight was murderous, prime Quartey like. If THAT Taylor shows up against Pavlik, he might prove me wrong and kick Pavlik's ass. But I havent seen that Taylor since then, so I'm going with Pavlik.

taylor fought 3 southpaws in a row. before that, he fought hopkins.

has anyone looked good against those four?

karmazin dominated ouma, but i think that had more to do w/ ouma than karmazin. winky and hopkins are great fighters and stinks is impossible to look good against.

taylor himself is also an awkward herky jerky type fighter. maybe he's just a stinker himself.

I dont think Taylor's a stinker. I think he's a fighter at heart, he just has technical flaws. Pavlik will force him to fight, which will either lead to Kelly getting his ass kicked, or Taylor getting KTFO. One of the two, at this point, I'm thinking the later.

yea. taylor's been in some dificult fights. pavlik had miranda from the first round and it was only a matter of time before he fell.

it's going to be interesting to see how pavlik reacts to taylor's style especially if taylor takes the early lead.

i can't pick pavlik based on his lone impressive win against a top fighter who was done before he even got in the ring.

Yeah, Taylor looked good early and he had an impressive jab. For the last few fights he hasn't been able to impose it but I think he'll be able to make it the key punch against Pavlik who's a very orthodox fighter. There's nothing he does that can confuse an experienced fighter like Taylor. I'm sure Taylor will win a comfortable decision. Some people severely overrate the meaning of Pavlik's victory against a clearly diminished Miranda (Okay I know It's arguable but a hyperbole always helps an argument:lol: ) while at the same time completely overlooking the fact that Taylor hanged in the ring and won against some of the most crafty and well schooled fighters on earth. Pavlik may be big and strong but in boxing skills and experience win fights, Taylor has the advantage in both.

Taylor gets alot shit for no reason. The guy is not a prime Roy Jones or Bernard Hopkins but he's still a damn good fighter. Alittle awkward yes, but the guy possesses a good jab and pretty good right hand and fights with heart. Anyone who can fight Hopkins twice and then go after Winky and hold his own (I have him 2-1 in those matchups) is damn impressive in my book. Cotto gets praised but up until this upcoming Mosley fight, he's never fought any elite fighters and has been rocked by Fag Corley and an unheralded Torres.

Taylor is not that fun to watch, but you damn sure can't knock his comp over the past 2 years. Massacure said it best, Pavlik imo isn't in Taylor's class at this point.

I'm with Massacure and Maverick on this one. Sure, Pavlik's a more fan friendly fighter then Jermain but he's going to be wide open in spots that Winky and Bernard weren't.

I hope for the sport that Pavlik is better then I think he is, but my gut tells me to go with Jermain in an easier then expected fight for him.

Taylor was impressive against Bunema. However you have to remember that Bunema was a junior middle who just moved up. I'm dissapointed with Taylor to be honest. He is in his prime and he hasn't improved that much as a fighter than when he first started as a pro.

Taylor has a great resume. I give him much credit for taking this fight with Pavlik because it is risky. If the Taylor that fought Ouma shows up, Pavlik will win. If the Taylor that fought Bunema shows, its a great fight with someone going out on his back. Those who are saying Pavlik isn't in Taylor's class will be stunned come this fight. Pavlik will come to fight and Taylor better be ready for one.

I really thought Jermain would be something special after this win and the Marquez win.
Perhaps he still may, but he seems mired at a certain developmental level that he hasn't been able to rise from.

goes to show you how meaningless wins over soft competition can be. and yet people make this mitake all the time - thinking that an impressive win over a guy like marquez means anything.
