The fight is now less than 2 weeks away, time to get a tally of who everyone is picking. Say who you pick and WHY. My prediction is Pavlik KO 9. Taylor will build up the lead early, then begin to eventually fold under Kelly's slow, but constant pressure, and once that right hand begins to land I dont think Jermain's chin will react well.

BTW- Sly if your out there, dont forget that you and I still have a sig bet going for this fight!

My prediction is ALSO Pavlik KO 9 :bears:

I have to admit though, I am a bit more concerned than I was. Taylor is quite pathetic really, especially his performances against Ouma, Wright and Spinks, but SOMEHOW he managed to have 2 close fights with the great Nard :dunno:

And obviously, he has faced the better opposition.

But Pavlik is just a beast at 160, if he fights his best on the big stage, he'll win.

Pavlik looked terrific against Miranda while Taylor has had many weak showings in a row, but the fact that he "won" Hops leads me to believe that he has a habit of fighting down to his opponents level. I think JT sees Pavlik as a real threat, concentrates and wins a decision, although I'd be happyif Pavlik took it

Pavlik is really gonna test Taylor's stamina as well as his heart....we saw how tired he got in those Hopkins' fights, and they weren't fought at a hard pace at all.....

....i don't think Pavlik will jump on Taylor right away, he'll make Taylor work, but he'll look to put his foot down in the second part of the fight.

Taylor really has to establish the jab, and if he can, deter Pavlik from being so aggressive, but i can't see him being able to do that. His best chance of winning is establishing a big lead early on that Pavlik won't be able to make up....

.....i think Pavlik comes on strong from the mid way point and stops Taylor in the late rounds.

    Pavlik KO 11

My gut feeling is Taylor will come out aggressive and get hurt by something big early that makes him tentative. I see Pavlik picking him apart and stopping him in the middle rounds. In his post fight interview, Taylor will claim to have no excuses, but repeatedly reference difficulties making weight. His camp will ignore the rematch clause and make the move to 168 by taking on a junior middleweight.

Pavlik by MD as the number of bad judges gets cut from two (at minimum) to one for one of Taylor's fights by mistake.

    Pavlik KO 10...

This is a "Fight of the Year" Candidate...

BOTH Men will B VERY Hurt @ Some Point, Possibly even FLOORED...Like Most of Ya'll, REED Questions Jermain Taylor's CHIN, Based on his Matchmaking of Late...

& Now he's In a Fight that was Basically FORCED Upon him & DiBella...w/All the BAD Press they were Receiving, there's NO Way Taylor Could've Fought Anybody BUT Kelly Pavlik in his Next Defense...

There's TONS of Pressure on Jermain AND In a Sense, HE's the 1 w/Something to "Prove" Here...But Despite his Inadequacies, Jermain Taylor DOES have "Heart"...He's a Big,Strong Middleweight who WILL Fight Back when Forced...

Pavlik's Gonna B ON Taylor from the Get-Go & as a Result, Jermain WILL Land some Shots...Jermain's JAB will B THE KEY Cause he has a GOOD "1-2", but if that "1" Ain't Landing 1st,then His Right Hand is Virtually USELESS...Jermain's Jab HASN"T Been a Factor in his Last SEVERAL Bouts & Neither has his Right hand...The 2 R Intertwined...

If Jermain's Power is as OVERRATED as it Appeared Against Spinks an Ouma, then Pavlik will DOMINATE him & Stop him N LESS than 5...But REED is PREDICTING that Taylor has Enough to HURT Pavlik w/Out Necessarily DISCOURAGING him...

So Pavlik WILL have Rough Patches, Get STAGGERED Badly,Possibly Dropped, Cut & SWOLLEN, but he'll OVERCOME All of that, Place Taylor in a SIMILAR Predicament & Stop Taylor in the 10th Round of a BRUTAL Bout...

Like REED Said, "Fight of the Year" Candidate...

I agree with REED that this is a definite FOTY candidate regardless of the outcome. Pavlik is big, strong, durable, hits hard and this is his chance.

taylor's gonna cut him w/ that jab of his. taylor is also more athletic and mobile than the weight drained miranda. pavlik might give him some scare, but i like taylor to win on points or late tko.

So, Pavlik walks through, P4P-puncher Edison Miranda's best shots.....yet the 17-KO-King stops him in 10?

    Where's that logic?

If anyone can throw more than 20 punches a round against Hopkins, they will automatically win the round:lol:

And in reality, that's how Taylor won both of those fights!!

    Best shots? hardly.

Taylor will find him way more often and way more clear. I don't think Jermain has it in him to stop a bull like Pavlik but it's not such a crazy thing to say considering Pavlik's chin is not that proven.

I'm hesitant to make a pick yet, and even more so with most people basing theirs on Pavlik's and Taylor's past few fights.

It's easy to say that Kelly's looked spectacular, Taylor ugly to watch in his past few (Wright being the only watchable fight in his past five), and that Kelly will run through him. But the truth is Pavlik's faced the type of competition that almost any top fighter will look good (or at least exciting) against, while Taylor's comp can make anyone look bad.

That said, I have to question how long Taylor's chin would hold up against Zertuche and Miranda, neither of whom are any great shakes, but can damn sure crack. I have no doubt that Pavlik would've eventually found ways to get rid of both Ouma and Spinks.

I've always suspected that in Taylor, DiBella has long compensated for a weak chin with his matchmaking. Grady Brewer gave him a scare 100 years ago, and it was nothing but shot fighters (often undersized) and sparring partners up until Hopkins. And even in Hopkins, Hopkins, Wright, Ouma and Spinks, yes 5 fights at or near the top of their divisions, none of whom the types that will expose a weak chin.

Both sides did a good job of matchmaking in keeping their fighters undefeated. The reason why I'm going with Pavlik, though, is we've seen all of his flaws and he's still undefeated. Taylor still has question marks, and already too many close calls (4-0-1 in his last five, though some will just as easily argue it should be 1-3-1). I just have yet to determine which exact outcome I see happening.

Damn, I love Kelly Pavlik. His style is so exciting and he is all fighter.

But his style along with his flaws will IMO play right into Taylor's hands.

Taylor has looked less than stellar since winning the belt, but his opponents have to be credited with some of that because of styles.

Yeah, the Spinks fight was bad for Taylor's cause......but Corey is a cutesy boxer with skills that are sometimes hard to look good against.

Same with Winky...and Nard is cagey and hard to look good against let alone beat.

And since Bernard, Taylor hasn't fought a man who is as physically big as he is.....and Kelly is a big middlewdight.

However, I don't think that Kelly Pavlik has faced anyone with the speed, size and natural talent of Taylor.
Taylor has faced a guy as good as Pavlik.

Chins are even IMO, and Pavlik's will definitely be tested in this one.

I pick Taylor by 8th round stoppage, and his recent critics will say that Pavlik wasn't all that good to begin with.

Good post, I haven't seen the Grady Brewer fight - what happened?

And as great as Hopkins is, especially given his age, he is a strong bastard but not a puncher. Pavlik is a true puncher.

And being that your logic is probably true, one question on my mind is WHY did DiBella make this fight? Why not just go to 168 instead of facing Pavlik, arguably the biggest puncher at 160?

Taylor has more or less admitted it himself, he's in it for the money, not the all time great list.

Manny and Jermaine find a way to disarm Pavlik of his extended straight right, because admittedly, it's quite a dangerous weapon, it's the sole reason he is in this position, but once Taylor takes that shot out of the equation, he will thoroughly outpoint the tough but hopeless sloth, no knockdowns, just a straight 9 rounds.

I'd give Pavlik a good chance of busting up Jermaine's frightenned son at Lightheavyweight though, we know him as "Dawson's bitch",..and I'm not talking about Adamek,..
