I try not to watch fights when fighters die, although I've watched other fights which led to fighters dying (Quiroga-Anifowoshe, Resto-Collins). I don't plan on seeing this due to what happened, but how bad was the final attack? I know Valdez was trying to quit, and the ref hadn't stopped it so it was legal, but was it a long pause where it was obvious and Reid just cheapshotted him?
It was clear he quit. Reid clearly cheapshotted him. The guy was in the process of turning away and Teddy unloaded on him. While you're supposed to protect yourself at all times, it was clear Valdez wanted to quit. Most of us had problems with how Teddy celebrated when Valdez was CLEARLY distressed. Plus, I've been told that over the years Teddy has bragged in the gym that he killed Valdez.
That's business. Part of the unfortunate side of the business, but nonetheless, that's business. A fighter full well knows the risk he or she is taking everytime they step into the squared circle, and Reid was doing what he was paid to do. The referee has been appointed by the State Commission to stop the fight, not Teddy Reid. Take it up with that particular state if you have a problem would be my answer. Karl
