Here is a link to a video of some guys I train. Some of you on here may know me and my background. Anyway, this is one of my guys after only 4 1/2 weeks of training. I just want your opinions. If this is the wrong forum, I apologize. By the way, the guy he fought has an MMA background; so does my guy. This is the first fight for both of them. Also, my guy went from 186 lbs to 163 lbs in 3 weeks. He showed good energy in the fight. I mentioned that so you all would know he lost it the right way. He's the guy in the blue and white. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DuX8XkL4kw My other fighter is not up here yet; he won via 2nd round stoppage. He, too, has only trained for 4 1/2 weeks. Feel free to leave comments as well. Enjoy.
Not bad for 4 1/2 weeks. Hey he already seems to have more fundamentals than Valero and Ponce de Leon.
Looks pretty decent though of course he needs some work on his defense....keeping his chin down when he throws & when he pulls back, getting his hands back in the station pronto, keeping the free hand in a better defensive position while he throws, blah blah. But his positioning, footwork & sense of range all look very impressive. Oh, and some body punching definitely wouldn't go awry!
He needs to work on keeping range, he's falling in and crowding himself when he throws. Then he's backing straight out, that's not good. instead of backing straight out, he should move to either side, ducking never hurts either. Also turn over that left hook, he's slapping a bit with it. Pretty good for only 4 weeks of training.
As you all can imagine, I have gone over all of the basics; as you can guess, he does it in sparring but changed in the actual fight; now, whether it may have been nerves or whatever is up for debate. How many guys do you know who actually follow everything in their first fight? It's one of those things that are corrected incrementally, and by the 3rd fight, things look a lot smoother and more natural. Thanks for the input though. By the way, I once had a fighter who won a fight with just 1-2's! He was so nervous, I felt he'd forget the game plan so I kept it simple, just do 1-2's. He ended up winning via 3rd round stoppage.
