I don't know if people are being serious here when they pick Norris, but it's not impossible he'd win. In fact, I think he would.

    Everyone is dead serious.

Anyone who doesn't pick Norris in this matchup simply doesn't understand the game of boxing.

Whitaker was small for a Welterweight, let alone a Jnr Middleweight, and he wasn't known for power. Norris' only achilles heel was his chin..which wouldn't be tested here by the smaller whitaker. Norris would simply overwhelm whitaker with power and speed...and even Whitaker's defensive genius wouldn't be enough to offset that.

Whitaker had teh chin and the defense to not get knocked out...but not to win the decision.

Of course Norris would win. This is 154, not a P4P matchup.

Whitaker made one stop at 154 where he completely bamboozled Julio Cesar Vazquez, I dont see how Norris could have done that any better

I cant believe people think Norris who never easily beat any great fighter, easily beats one of the greatest, I dont give a shit what you say about Whitaker's punch

YOu didnt have to hit like a ton of bricks to hurt Terry norris, and you caertainly didnt need to be as great as Pernell Whitaker to beat him

Gimme Pete here, Norris was bullshit

    Dude....

Norris made a career of feasting on fighters that were either older or smaller. Whitaker would fit into the smaller category and norris would beat him too.

Norris EASILY beat Meldrick Taylor, John Mugabi, Sugar Ray Leonard...who were big name fighters that were either slightly past prime or too small.

Anyway..Whitaker gets beaten from pillar to post in this one. Too short, too small, not powerful enough...made for Norris.

you have got to be kidding me with that horseshit

Meldrick Taylor was DONE... BEYOND done

John Mugabi hadnt been worth a shit for a good 3 years... and even when he WAS worth a shit, he had zero of Whitaker's skills, desire or toughness

and Ray Leonard??? are you nuts???

the difference between THAT Ray Leonard and the one that Hagler fought (never mind the one that Hearns/Duran/Benitez fought) is astronomical... The Hagler version of Leonard knocks Norris DEAD

WAY BETTER FIGHTERS than Terry Norris were unable to beat Whitaker "from pillar to post" ... guys with better chins than Terry Norris were hurt by Whitaker

Norris never beat a fighter within 100 miles of Whitaker in his fucking life

It does seem a bit of a stretch to call Taylor, Mugabi & Leonard, "slightly" past-prime when they fought Norris, IMO.

Stafford's use of terms like "prime", "past prime", "slightly past prime", "shot", etc...all tend to be used to pump up or diminish fighters depending on his current agenda.

You have a dilema here. That's why you focussed on what I said, which Ramonza touched on....which is really irrelevant to the topic at large...instead of offering your view on the topic itself.

the source of your dilema is that you agree that Norris beats Whitaker at 154...but you don't want to say it...because Cdogg has already picked Whitaker..and you can never bring yourself to offer a contrary opinion from your master and Idol in the MM forum.

    You cdogg idolizing cunt....

Nice try, pea brain, but as usual you are totally talking out of your ass and making things up to deflect your own posting weaknesses. You misuse "prime" and/or any variation of it as it suits you in your endless efforts to revise boxing history.

And who says I pick Norris here? When did that happen? Oh wait, you just made it up. Whitaker is certainly capable of beating Norris at 154. So nice try putting words in my mouth, loser, but you are wrong yet again.

Nice try at yet another smoke screen.

So WHO DO YOU PICK at 154lbs? Whitaker or Norris? Not who is capable of winning..what's your pick? Don't concentrate on nickpicking at what "Stafford" is saying in part of a response to someone else.....offer YOUR answer to the topic that you clicked in...obsessed freak.

Shut it, douchebag. I will say what I want, when I want, and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it. It's pretty obvious you hate when you talk out of your ass and get called on it and don't have a proper response.

As for the fight, i can definitely see Whitaker winning. Norris will not outbox him and Whitaker's chin and defense are plenty good enough to defuse Norris' offense. But it's not an easy win for either fighter. Norris winning wouldn't be a stretch by any means, but I would go with Whitaker.

I love how Stafford always assumes that because BWJ and I get along that we somehow always agree... which is preposterous

one of the ways we have come to be friendly on here is from years of having good debates with one another about things

His favorite fighter is a guy I would LOVE to see run over by a truck

I have the same sort of relationship with Ramonza, who I think is terrific, but we have vehement disagreements on boxing

Its possible to like someone without agreeing with all of their points

I like both of these guys because they make a point, whether I think they are right or wrong, and they back it up without avoiding the truth

Cdogg is my boy, but his hate for Norris goes overboard. I'm more of a Pea fan then a Norris fan, but theres just no way Pea is beating Norris at 154. Too small to impose his skills on Terry, and not enough power to dent Terry's chin. Norris had too much size, handspeed, and offensive skills for Pea to handle at 154. Pernell drops a clear UD.

X, my friend, this has nothing to do with hate. It has to do with an ALL-TIME GREAT fighter fighting a guy who never beat even an EXCELLENT fighter in his life

    1) Whitaker was able to impose those skills on Oscar De La Hoya (a big welter, and better fighter than Terry Norris) when he was well past his best days... he was able to impose them on Vasquez, who was essentially the same exact size as Norris, and appeared to be stronger and sturdier... Norris was by no means a BIG Jr. Middleweight... he was basically a blown up welterweight, he was all of 5'9 and he was slenderly built

    2) Simon Brown, who was never a one shot hitter at any point in his career, and who was completely used up (like all of Norris's biggest name opponents) hurt Terry BADLY with a JAB and knocked him out, despite having 1/8 of the speed and skills that Whitaker had to get the punches there... You did not have to hit hard to hurt Terry Norris, nor did you have to be as skillful as Pernell Whitaker to hit him

This isnt a question of a great versus a near-great... this is a GREAT fighting a talented but horribly fragile fighter who spent his whole prime years being carefully matched against unthreatening, SHOT fighters who were smaller than him... Whitaker beat better fighters than Terry Norris was, he got the respect of better, tougher fighters than Terry Norris... he is on a different level than Terry Norris ever even stepped into the ring with... he wouldn't just be the best fighter Terry Norris ever fought by a little, it would be by a light year or two... there is nothing, NOTHING in Terry Norris's career or legacy that suggests he ever would have beaten a great fighter... he never came within 100 miles of doing so in his life

Whitaker is proven, he fought the best and he beat the best... Norris fought nobodies and used up former welterweights

I agree. Norris used to make a point of EASILY making 154 and often offered to meet the likes of Chavez at around 147, just so he could beat up another smaller, aging "name" fighter. He was not a big Junior Middleweight by any means.

I tend to go along with the view that his chin was THAT bad that moderately powered, precise shots were more than capable of hurting him. And whittaker was good enough even at this weight to land cleanly on Norris' papier-mache chin pretty much as and when he wanted.

    1. Norris was far more capable of dealing with Pea's style then DLH. The reason being Norris had more diversity in his attack then Oscar, and wasnt a one handed fighter. Actually, other then having a much better chin, there really isnt ANYTHING Oscar had over Terry Norris. Norris was overall a more complete technician than Oscar, and you know this.

    2. Simon Brown was so much heavier handed then Pea its not even funny.

Look... no one is debating who the better, and greater fighter is. Pea & Roy are IMO the two best fighters to come along since SRL. So thats not a question.

But was Pea better then Norris at 154? No. Does the style matchup in this fight favor Pea at 154? No.

Thanks, bud...and I don't know that I rate higher than you in that regard. You are a great source of fact-filled, historically accurate and non-biased information. Ramonza is very good as well. I wasn't sure at first, but I have come to appreciate his input.

And, to be honest, I don't especially care what Sly thinks. He makes so many inaccurate, biased and just plain wrong statements that anything he says has to be taken with more than just a grain of salt.

    1. based on what, exactly? all of those really great defensive fighters Norris beat? oh yeah, he didnt fight any

    2. I never said he wasnt a harder puncher, but his handspeed and ability to find openings for those punches (especially at THAT point in his career) is laughable when compared to Pete

Pete had one fight at 154 and looked GREAT, he had no problem getting the respect of a solid, veyr sturdy Junior Middleweight who was way tougher and more durable than terry Norris, if not as fast or explosive

like I said, if Terry Norris had beaten one even EXCELLENT fighter in his career, I might be able to see him defeating a legendary fighter like Whitaker, but he never accomplished anything even close to that... Whitaker sure did
