LAS VEGAS, NV (May 1, 2007)…Everyone is talking and weighing in on the outcome of the Oscar De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather "The World Awaits" mega-bout Saturday, May 5 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas live on HBO Pay-Per-View. From "The Donald" to Miami Heat's "D Wade," find out what the celebrities, professional athletes and fellow pugilists are saying about the hottest and most highly anticipated bout in boxing history.

"Oscar has always been under-rated—he will win!" Donald J. Trump

"That right there is going to be ... that's a good one cause a lot of times everybody counts De La Hoya out. He's always the underdog. And he's at his best when everyone counts him out. I think this is gonna be one of the biggest challenges for Mayweather. I mean I think it's gonna be a tough fight. I can't pick a winner on this one. I really can't. I'm not gonna bet on it. I'm just gonna go there and enjoy it." Hip-hop mogul Diddy

Hmmmmmmhmmmm, De La Hoya." A drian Grenier, Entourage (Vince Chase)

everyones picking an upset... Seems like more people are picking oscar. Guess Oscars not the underdog anymore. :dunno:

And then idiots like bow-wow say that he thinks floyds going to knock Oscar out early... What a crock of shit, does this kid even watch boxing? Or does he just root for the fighter who has the same ethnic backround as himself?

It's not hard to draw blood, you only need sharp fingernails.

"They are both legendary fighters in this game, but neither one can beat Bernard Hopkins." Rasheed Wallace, Forward, Detroit Pistons

The best one.

This was the most knowledgable response, though:

[SIZE=+0]"Mayweather has a huge edge in a few key areas—speed and defense being two. Floyd is closer to the prime of his career and Oscar is way past his. I like the fact that Oscar was willing to take this fight. It would be a great story if he should stop Mayweather. Mayweather will be just too much for him to handle though. It might go the distance with a small percentage of a TKO in the late rounds. Win to Mayweather." <!-- D(["mb","</font\></span\></p\>
<p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt"\><font face="Times New Roman"\><span\><b\>Dale Earnhardt Jr., Professional Race Car Driver, NASCAR Nextel Cup</b\>
</span\><b\></b\></font\></p\>
<p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt"\><b\><font face="Times New Roman"\>*</font\></b\></p\>
<p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt"\><font face="Times New Roman"\>"I love both of them…Oscar." <b\>Chris Tucker, Actor </b\></font\></p\>
<p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt"\><font face="Times New Roman"\>*</font\></p\>
<p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt"\><font face="Times New Roman"\><span\>*</span\><b\>"</b\>Mayweather." <b\>Lebron James, NBA All Star,
Cleveland Cavaliers Forward</b\></font\></p\>
<p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt"\><font face="Times New Roman"\>*</font\></p\>
<p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt"\><font face="Times New Roman"\>"Oh man, you know, that's a tough one you know because Mayweather may be the pound for pound best.* But I love Oscar and I love his heart. A bunch of actors do not define who the favorite is. Money does the talking, and Floyd is still the clear favorite.

that's pathetic if it's true. i like to think that it isn't. us white guys are used to watching sports that aren't dominated by athletes of our own race. but i'm not so sure the same is true of blacks and hispanics.

maybe. i haven't watched enough of it to know, but i do know there's quite a few hispanics and blacks competing so i wouldn't characterize it as dominated by whites.

    Tito Ortiz? The Gracies?

:crafty: As if we aren't aware of your compulsive racial fantasies already,..you must have an extremely small cache to be 'running' as if it comes as a shock to anyone that YOU like to belittle white people.

so is this why you never make predictions? or is it the fact that you're such a petty prick to people who make wrong predictions that you couldn't possibly allow yourself to make one?

People LOVE to pretend that race plays no role in sports, but look at it. Basketball and football both became integrated at around the same time. As James Michener wrote in Sports in America, fans found it a lot easier to deal with African-Americans in football because all they saw was the pads. Basketball's popularity took a nosedive, because all they could see was skin.

ok. but that doesn't change the fact that the majority of Football and Basketball fans are white people. and it's true of Baseball too. so like i said.

and thats why ufc is sooo popular....people like seeing their own beat the shit of someone else...even from the same race group...doesn't matter. Just a guess but probably 80% of ufc fans/people that order the ppv's are white males...:dunno: ...same way that probably 75% of the people that order a Trinidad, Vargas, Barrera PPV are hispanic..

there are what..? 150-200+ million white people in this country..? of course they are going to be the majority of fans in most sports....but it's not always ABOUT RACE...loook at hockey it's popularity has decline.

that's not the point! the post i was responding to might have been misleading in that it implied that white people stopped watching those sports because of black participation. but the point i'm making is that that's the exception to the rule. by and large, white people are every bit the basketball, football and baseball fans that they've always been.

I don't predict; I gamble. I don't wager too much, but I've always made money. I got burned by Freitas by decision at +565, but if the odds hadn't been so long, I would't have been enticed by it. I didn't see Diaz winning by decision, given all the money that's gone into the Freitas product. I didn't see Diaz winning by KO, TKO or DQ. I split between Diaz and Diaz by decision. It wasn't a great month, but I made money because of all of those idiots who bet on Arce.

When I run an e-book, I take actions from both sides and always come out ahead, but that's easy math. It's really tough winning money from a casino on a regular basis. You can't think about who's going to win or who's going to lose, but only about the LV line compared to the actual line. Mayweather-De la Hoya? The line's -200 on Mayweather when it should be -400. That's a fucking good bet, even though there's a good chance Mayweather could be robbed. I'm not betting extra huge on this one, but I'm also putting a tiny amount on Mayweather by KO, simply because it's so unlikely yet likely.

Either way, this is what you do. If you like De la Hoya, bet Vegas. If you like Mayweather, bet overseas/internet. De la Hoya by KO? I've been tempted to put a few sawbucks on that. The spread between LV and overseas is... interesting. It's kind of evened out by now, but the differences have been intriguing.
