This years Golden Globes nominations have set a curious precedent: while, as usual, most of its nominees are the typical late year small releases most people have never heard of, what made this years nominations different from previous years is the amount of popular box office hits the kind that usually gets ignored. In the Best Picture (drama) we have Black Panther (Marvel's first!), A Star is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody (which was kind of a slap on the wrist at USA critics). In the Best Picture (comedy or musical) we got "Crazy Rich Asians" and the yet to be released 'Mary Poppins Returns" In the animation category two more superhero films: "The Incredibles 2" and 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse". Actors Rami Malik, Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale and Lady Gaga in the actress category got nominations. Bale's nomination in 'Vice', a tongue-in-cheek biography of Vice President Dick Cheney that mocks George W. Bush presidency, can raise eyebrows for its timing during George H.W. Bush's funeral.
So basically, A Star Is Born will sweep the board, as it will do at The Oscars in 3 months' tine and another win for Mustard.
